I just wonder if the DoF will be an extra barrier to signing players, Insomuch as it will add to the layers off decision makers we have to get through before we decide who we are going to sign and then actually signing them, something like this (not necessarily in this order):

Levy
Committee/Sherwood
DoF
AVB

Or will it be so we can do away with, 'the committee' and Levy's size nines sticking their noses in and just have a budget set, then AVB and the DoF deciding then Levy just going and signing the player?

The only thing that bothers me a about DOF is that the DOF is seen as the constant, what justify's him being the constant over the coach? I get the DOF should have the same vision as the chairman and the coach but as we've seen with Commoli the DOF isn't always right. One of the main things that's supposed to be good about the DOF is that the coach can change but the DOF stays, again not always the right move

More talk of AVB confirming he wants a technical director

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/8719241/?

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is hoping the arrival of a technical director at White Hart Lane next season will help move the club forward.

The Spaniard, who will be hoping to end his first full season in charge in the Premier League by sneaking Spurs in to the top-four, became used to working under a director while working in Italy and Portugal.
And working with someone who deals with off the pitch issues, including player recruitment, leaving Villas-Boas to concentrate on managing the squad, is something the boss feels will benefit the north London side.
"We have been outlining the route ahead for what we want to do in terms of the club structure," the Spurs manager said.
"Hopefully (there will be) the arrival of somebody else in the structure for the recruitment side, a technical director.
"It is a position I am used to working with and ideally it is someone that will help us to move forward."
Fans may be doubtful, however, when reminded by the fractious relationship ex-manager Martin Jol endured with former director of football Damien Comolli.
But Villas-Boas said: "It's not fundamental, but it will help the club moving forward.
"It's something that I am used to working with. A number of experiences that we had with Jose (Mourinho) at Inter Milan with (Marco) Branca which was always positive.
"Not only me as a manager but when I was with him so I think it's something that works. Since the first day I told the club that it's somebody who is extremely important in my view to the structure of the club."

Why does the cynic in me think this is a clever ploy to have a scapegoat other than levy when the inevitable collapse of the big striker deal happens at the last minute of the transfer window again......

DOF ! PTB (pass the buck) more like it.

Leave it.

In any other business it would work like this. You'd very rarely get the CEO of a company designing a product himself, he leaves it to someone who is more qualified for the job.

No DOF or whatever the term is will change the fact Levy has the final say.

Cynics will say it's a disguise for the money men to dictate the players coming in.

Spurs have tried to get C L on the cheap, and they had a bit of success with that. Had they invested wisely, we would have been looking at possibly 4 straight seasons of CL. A weakened Arsenal would have been eating our shit.

Recent evidence: Saha and Nelsen Jan 2012; Adebayor and Dempsey Aug 2012(Both needed to be here by end of July)

Again this would happen in any other business. Of course the boss is going to have the final say, it is up to the people he is employing to find the players to do their job well enough and convince him to spend the cash. You think Steve Jobs ever didn't make final decisions or you think he just OK'd every idea that the brainiacs at Apple came up with. The good ideas were probably presented in a compelling enough way, with enough evidence for them to make the product. Why should it be any different for a football club?

It seemed before Levy didnt get his hands dirty except for negotiations and said to Commoli how much he can spend and get who want within those limits, now it seems he has got alot more involved and I dont think even if we tried, we would be able to go back to that system.

Sorry, but what a technical director would do in a club?

I'm not totally sure but he is the conduit between the board and the playing staff. Director of football is more the title.
Like you have a financial director or and HR director in some companies, and so on, it is dependant on the type of company.

Senior Spurs officials have bided their time while they wait for Baldini to become available, even though club sources insist that there are other names in the frame for the role.
Lol biding their time while they wait for him to become available??? Sounds like a Leandro special. Nobody has said Baldini is available his contract is up in 2015. Waiting the whole season for him to become available is pathetic.

Got nothing against bald people (my grandmother was bald and had a tash). I just like the name Ni.

If I remember rightly, we were linked with Baldini last Summer, too.
I think he might be the one we are after - at a high level, but not too high.

Our leader never just goes and signs a player...we've learnt that by now haven't we ;)
