That list is absolutely shocking. They just pick the most media friendly names regardless of whether they have been good or not. I mean Kaka? 55 man shortlist for team of the year? Do me a favour.

Bale clearly deserves to make the list for a stellar 2010 though, regardless of which position they put him in.

Players who, based on 2010 form, have absolutely no place in this list:

Buffon, Casillas, Cech, Bastos, Evra, Ferdinand, Nesta, Essien (who's been injured most of 2010), Pirlo, Berbatov, Ibrahimovic (who was shocking the second half of last season, though on great form now), Rooney, Torres.

None of those players in bold should be anywhere near the list. It is not that they aren't good players, but they haven't done an awful lot other than be really famous footballers.

 You can see that the list is highly contentious with most people questioning whether a lot of stars got in on their name. If we're looking for players who've done well then Hazard should be there and no 1 Juve player should get anywhere near it... and I'm a Juve fan so that's saying something

That list is nonsense, pure and simple.

How the hell are Rio, Terry, Torres and Gerrard in there?

Same old bollocks every year.

Nesta?1 He hasn't been decent since about 2004.

Rio/Gerrard have done nothing.

Might as well stick Stoichkov and Van Basten on there.

Am I missing something here....World XI......there must be some players in South America that would make the list?

Also Gyan, nominated for the coverted Balon d'Or, but not on this list?

I'm looking forward to the 2011 end of year list if I'm honest. You know, the one that will include the following players:

Gomes, Kaboul, Ekotto, Modric, Bale, Van der Vaart, Chirpy!

I was sick in my mouth when I read Gerrard's name in the list. He could be playing for Kettering Town and he'd still make it.
