If he signed it before the city game then he needs new advisors.

Why?
Maybe they adavised that this was a club on the up, a squad on the up, and that potential suitors, like United were not all rosey in the garden.
Besdies, as was suggested when he made the heart into the crowd after his goal...if his Mum really is a Yid, that is quite a good reason to give a few more years to the club. I know it's a four year contract, but in 2 years he'll only be 22, and the club will have to start taking notice of offers if he makes clear he wants to move, surely:shrug: (Though, hopefully, by that stage we will have progressed enough for him to feel like his ambitions can be fulfilled here).

Bale signing a new contract is our best signing of the summer, no doubt about it.

This, and Ledley signing a new one too.

And a new world class centre forward.

But apart from that, Bale's new contract is defo up there.

Why? Because if there was is a chance our wage structure takes a little bump finishing 4th, he may have just cost himself a few quid. Not that it's all about the money, but these are business decisions for the players.. or at least they should have someone behind them who treats it like a business decision. Just common sense.

I strongly doubt that Dan Levy would be foolish enough to do that to one of our key squad members of the future. Let him sign a new contrac tthat bump the wage ceiling up a bit, just to save a few quid. That might seriously piss Bale/advisors off, and I am 100% certain Daniel wouldn't want to do that.

Harry hails emerging Bale

Welshman committed to Spurs before fourth place was guaranteed

Harry Redknapp has expressed his delight at securing a new deal for Gareth Bale and insisted the Welshman wanted to commit before Tottenham sealed a top-four finish.
Bale's

emergence has helped propel Spurs to UEFA Champions League qualification but his performances have been so spectacular that rumours had surfaced of a possible move elsewhere.
The speculation was quashed on Friday as Bale signed a new four-year contract, with Redknapp

maintaining that he has a big part to play in the future at White Hart Lane.

"He's developing here now. This is a good club and there aren't too many he could go to - Manchester United,

are the only teams above us," said the Tottenham manager.
"But he's very happy here and we don't want to sell him. He agreed a deal before we got fourth place."
Superstitious

Bale was once seen as a bad luck charm as Spurs failed to win in his first 24 Premier League outings for the club.
Redknapp admits that he even considered not selecting Bale because of the record the team had when the 20-year-old played.
"I'm very superstitious and there were times when I thought, 'That's not right, it's impossible for it to happen for him'. But he hasn't looked back since," Redknapp said.
"He went through that terrible spell of not being in a winning team but we got rid of that and his confidence has risen."
Future

Bale has the versatility to play in defence or on the wing but he has caught the eye more with his forward play.
But despite being one of Spurs' most potent attacking weapons over the past few months, Redknapp envisages the youngster establishing himself as a full-back.
"I think he'll become a great left-back eventually. That's how I see it," Redknapp said.

Key word there is become. He will become a great left back eventually.

Doesn't mean he's there now.

Oh I know $, I was just getting my oar in before the inevitable word war sparked by those comments begins.

I personally think that we could do worse than employ him at left back with Modric in front of him against defensive sides that don't occupy fullbacks very well (Bolton, Stoke, Blackburn) but against attacking sides with players like Johnson or Valencia on the right, players who occupy full backs, I think Bale's attacking qualities would be nullified in such a system and he would also be exposed by the protection Modric doesn't offer. However, Ekotto and Bale as a combo with Bale on the wing means that firstly we are well equipped to deal with very attacking right wingers, but also that Bale doesn't need to worry so much about defending.

Basically, the teams who will shore up and double up on wingers, put Bale at left back where he can't be man marked and he won't have that much defending to do anyway, but against teams who's right side is attacking rather than defensive, the Bale on the wing, Ekotto behind him combo.

Yeah I agree that in some game Bale at left-midfield is a very good option with BAE behind him

Great stuff. He'll be the best LW in the world in a few years and easily be worth 40-50m

It's time we stopped selling our best players to United and keep ahold of our good ones

Who are we gonna sell him to after we win the World Club Cup? And if he ends up having a very successful carrier why would he want to leave?
