Hope Bale doesn't see this...

Noticed how whenever he has received some public praise from a football icon, or accolade he then preceeds to stink up the place.

Wow, quite a response there. Barca want to buy him to replace Dani Alves? He might see some time in the front 3 methinks. All just opinions.

Anyhoo, as we both agree, he's a fantastic LWer and with Benny at LB, playing him there for us would be an utter waste of THFC's resources.

As for the passive aggressive nonsense about football knowledge, you can keep it. Not interested in dick waving. Enjoy.

Not passive aggressive nonsense at all - it wasn't me who wanted to belittle and disenfranchise the alternative opinion to my own by categorising it as utterly wasted.

Look, don't know if this has been covered before, but Bale is quite simply, not a left-back.

Look - this has been covered dozens of times, and anyone who doesn't understand it is quite simply lacking in intelligence: if the club categorised him as a full-back, which they did (hence the fact that he wears No3 on his shirt) it wasn't wrong or stupid (as one member categorised it) to call him a left-back who also played on the wing. Now, quite clearly, the club prefers to play him as a winger, so it would be correct to categorise him as a winger, who can also play full-back.

It's not really that difficult to understand. All you have to is understand the difference between your opinion and official categorisation, on the one hand, and accept and respect the opinions of people who disagree with you, on the other.

If we are talking about now (and the post I was responding to wasn't - get it ), then it is fair to say he is a winger, because the club is playing him there. If we are talking about when the club were playing him as a full-back (which was the casein the post I was responding to), then, obviously, as seen as the club officially categorised him as a full-back, stuck a No 3 on his shirt, and played him as a full-back then he was a full-back (not difficult to comprehend, surely ).

i don't recall this. benny was playing.

I didn't say he was playing as a full-back, to be exact I said he was coming from a full-back position - watch the video, he would have been in the position he received the ball, pretty much if he had been playing as a full-back, for the first two goals - hence the fact that he runs a considerable distance of the pitch.

Sorry...argument to complex for you

Think it is alright to make miopic, insulting statements, but not for someone to challenge them.

The problem is your, not mine...and even trying to explain it to you is :sleepy: for me. Wallow in your ignorance :adios:

startingprice; his first goal he receives the ball 40 yards from our goal, the 2nd he gets it about 70 yards from our goal. pretty high up for a fullback.

Oh, so it's not too complex, but you only object when someone makes a complex post, and have no objection to someone making an insulting caricature of a post.

Also, you know absolutely nothing about me. You don't know what I do, you don't know how much I get out now. You don't know how many friends I have. You don't know how much I used to get out when I was younger. All you are doing is trying to demonize my opinon by suggesting I am miserable and unhappy - actually I am a very contended person, I get out plenty much, as much as I like (which is quite a lot as I am master of my own time), and I work for myself at home online, so it is no hassle to me to log into SC every hour. I probably don't go out in the way that you probably mean at all, however, as you probably think going out is just going to the pub, and I have been on the wagon for 10 years, having been something of a party-animal for very many years. But, you have no knowledge of any of this and just want to portay me this wya because sometimes I make some longer, more complex posters - that you disagree with. others do far longer posts than most of mine - do you stigmatise them the same way?

Look, I didn't raise the subject, and I didn't say, in effect, anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot, in raising the subject - so why did you choose to have a go at me, rather than the poster that did

Really, I think when he starts running he is much further back than that, isn't he
Did I specify that he received the ball? If I did, then I correct mmyself - in his general positioning, prior to the move, as we are under Inter attack, he is helping out in the general full-back position - therefore, it is easy to envisage him doing this playing as a full-back.

If you look more closely, you will see that the same could be said about some of the other goals he scored when playing tachnically as a winger.

All I'm trying to do is present a more complex understanding of the situation, rather than pretending that he never had a good game at full-back, and never had a bad game on the wing (because that suits a pre-determined viewpoint).

Sorry - the Bale issue is a very touchy subject with me.
My porblem is that he was categorised by the club as a full-back, they were playing him as a full-back, and they even gave him the No 3 shirt (which he retains), and I came on here one day and a poster, who wanted bale to play on the wing, called another stupid for saying he was a full-back. I tried to put them right on this, noting the fine distinction between what the club currently categorised him as, and where individual posters aspired to see him play (hell, what would I know, I'm only qualified at post-grad in matters of classification :eek:mg:), and it all got pretty abusive.
Even normally sane posters went quite crazy over it (me included) - so, when someone claims someone opens the subject up, in what I consider to be quite an inflammatory way, I can't help but attempt to put an end to it.

Like I said, it was the fact that you decided to turnon my post, rather than the one that opened the subject, I found annoying.

It is a subject that annoys the beejesus out of me.

Deep breaths Eek

I am a sad oldy, BTW, and, like many another sad oldy, I am very happy with that - it means we survived the madness

Whatever happens Bale is starting to resemble the Ronaldo type of player - free role, team leader (not yet but give it a couple of years), source of inspiration etc. Once he goes abroad the Ronaldo role is exactly the type he'll take up.

I remember a similar stat that showed Nani had a better goals/assists ratio at 24 (I think) that Ronaldo had by the same age.

Ronaldo has followed up with some formidable goalscoring stats since though. I think Bale will continue to provide more than Ronaldo though because Ronaldo is not a great team player.

Bold statement that one, Ronaldo is quite simply one of the best 3 players in the world, our Gareth has a long way to go to be concidered in that class for me.
I am not saying he cant do it but only time will tell. Great to be talking about one of our own like this though its been a while.
