The amount of times he goes down is really starting to get on my t!ts. Admittedly he does come in for some rough treatment sometimes, but it is no wonder he doesnt get all the decision when he is fouled when he goes down so easily so often as he is getting such a reputation.

This one today http://i.minus.com/iI04qBVyEBQp2.gif really wound me up as if he had stayed on his feet he may have a shot at an open goal (from a tight angle i know!)

Yeah, I was disappointed with the dive today. Hope AVB gives him a kick up the arse. We are TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR, diving is not acceptable!

Wish he would cut it out, its cheating and i do not want to see a player in a Spurs shirt do that.

Most of us put up with his theatrics because of what he brings to the game but today he definitely let us down by going to ground way too easily.

I think people have got it wrong on this occasion.

He is expecting to be clattered by Guzan who is gonna go through him to get the ball. Anticipating the contact he has dived to try and limit the impact. You have to remember that these guys are human, they hurt and get injured - nobody wants to get hurt or be injured, especially someone with a injury record like Bale and whats happened in the past with Charlie Adam.

What happened was Guzan pulled out and Bale already had dived and ended up looking silly. Now I am not naive enough to think Bale is a saint and he is always just trying to cover himself from getting injured, but I do think the vast vast majority of the time (9/10 times) he is trying to avoid the contact.

You only have to look at Ronaldo who dived when in the Premier League but doesn't do it to the same extent in Spain.

Diving is wrong but you only have to look at whats happened to Aaron Ramsey's career since his injury, Bale is regarding as one of world's best wingers - he is one injury away from becoming Kieron Dyer. Bale is not a cheat.

This.
In full speed, in the moment, he has every reason to antipate being clattered and to get out of the way.
He can be a bit too theatrical and I don't like that. But, at least here, he didn't feign injury.

He threw himself to the floor, if you look at it closely he had already got the ball past the player and there was no need to do it.

This will be unpopular but I'm not bothered. Football is a non contact sport and Bale gets kicked up in the air every week. He maybe goes down expecting contact but if a defender knows that you will go down easily he has to be careful. This does 2 things.

1. Adds pressure to the defenders decision making when tackling, especially in dangerouse, key areas of the pitch. Pressure is more likely to lead to bad decisions. = good for the player and team.

2. Makes the defender more likely to refrain from intentional fouls. This means our star player has a decreased chance of injury. ie Charlie scumbag Adam. = good for the player and team.

These are not traditional, good old fashioned, stiff upper lip, British idealistic views but the game is about winning and results. Bale doesn't need to change his tactic towards diving, he just needs to improve on his technique. He hasn't got the timing right yet.
Does anybody seriously think Messi doesn't go down easily?
He does. He just does it well.

Does look bad in the slo-mo, probably doesn't look as bad at full speed. I agree with the few comments above re: getting out the way, and to be fair it doesn't look like he is appealing for the foul, looking to get GK booked, but I only had radio coverage today, see what the sequence plays out on motd tonight.

David Ginola got a reputation as a diver at Newcastle.

When he played for Tottenham, we were denied a score of penalties we should have had in his 3 seasons at the Lane.

It can backfire.

So what you are saying is that the cheats have taken over the game?

But Bale has talked about diving quite a lot and given his explanations. I really doubt he would consciously cheat.

I think we have to accept that, like Gomes, there's something of the hypochondriac about him.

another point to add is that 90% of people that get all flustered about diving, absolutely love a sneaky elbow or a well timed yellow card challenge to upset the other team's rhythm.
You can't choose what type of cheating you like and justify it with manlyness.

Is Paul Scholes as bad a cheat as Christiano Ronaldo?

That's why I am saying he needs to get better at it, if he is going to choose ( correctly imo ) to do it.

It can and it will if he keeps doing it.

Diving is part of the game now and I can't see it ever going. Do I like it? No, do I understand it? yes, do I think its better to have players diving than having careers ruined by injury? yes.

I think 2/3 years ago in Jan 2010 we played Liverpool at Anfield and lost 2-0, but aside from that is was one of the worst professional games I have ever witnessed. The refereeing was abysmal by Howard Webb, he gave fouls for anything and everything there was no pattern of play. And sadly I think football is moving in that direction, and diving is more and more prevalent and the game is less contact.

Bale can play act sometimes but he is far from the biggest offender

He needs to man up and cut it out, like fook would he of got injured if he didnt dive in this instance, the keeper was nowhere near him, infact he probably could have reached the ball and possibly scored. Look at Messi, he is probably one of the most fouled players in the world but I have never seen him dive, does he get injured.... never. Don't like watching it, it's cheating pure and simple.
