Just a thought and I didnt know where to post it....(I miss the daily thread in Transfer Rumours).

How about making a try for Ballack. He certainly fits the bill doesnt he?

Proven, experienced on all kinds of levels, a leader in midfield, can score some goals and would be a huge inspiration for our young team!

If were willing to break the bank for Joe Cole, wouldnt a cheese bid for this guy seem an option?

He's a winner, the more of that character in and around the changing room can only help our cause. Whether the cost would be worth while would be up to harry. But he wasn't as bad last season as everyone tries to make out.

don't think we could afford his wages - would be an update on Palacios or Hudd though

I agree with you Fitz. He's very experienced, great Prem and Champs League pedigree and seems like a real team player.

I've always been a Jenas defender but if we have the opportunity to replace Jenas with Ballack in our squad for free, I think we should take it.

No. Not because I don't think he could add to the squad, but because I would prefer we sign Gudjohnsen. I definitely think we need a couple more players with Champions League experience. So wouldn't be opposed to signing Ballack, provided he falls in line with our wage structure (unlikely).

I just prefer Gudjohnsen, and I think he adds a great level of calmness to the team. Plus he seems like a great character to have in the dressing room (i'm not sure what Ballack is like in the dressing room though). Not to mention he is a couple of years younger aswell.

PS - Why is the question about the daily discussion thread?

Not sure, as who would he play instead of?

Gomes

Corluka King Dawson Bale

Huddlestone Palacios

Lennon Ballack Modric

New #9

I mentioned this is the Joe Cole thread (I'd much prefer Ballack to Cole), but he'd bring leadership, experience, goals from midfield, a range of passing and is someone who dictates play. Would be a wonderful signing.

Are you lot serious? Michael Ballack = one of the most overrated players the premier league has EVER seen.

Can't think of another player I'd rather not have in our squad

A year ago I would have said yes, wthout hesitation (overrated, my arseEek).
But, I think, highlighted sentence is the realy important one.

I had to think about it, he culd be this squad's Edgar Davids (which is, I believ, the OPs point), but he is, 33, and, at this precise moment, injured, as well. That is pretty close to the age David's was at when he wanted a 2 year contract and we were giving 1.

And, I believe, mil1lion's point is that we ave a young and exciting squad, and whilst bolstering them with a bit of experience (and leadership:shrug:) is a sound investment, we don't want to overhaul them with a squad of duffers just 'cos they were available on a free. Minimum disruption! If just one player, I would agree with Eidur - he's younger and the squad already knows and (seemingly) likes him.

He would be great to have in the squad. Anyone who says no must think they support Barcelona.

I think Ballack would be very good free-transfer, has tons of experience at the very top level, is an excellent passer of the ball and has a cracking shot on him. He's ageing and probably only has a couple of years before he retires but he'd bring alot to this squad.

CM's: Huddlestone, Ballack, Palacios, Sandro
AM's: Modric, Lennon, J.Cole, Kranjar, Bentley

I'd like that!

Given that until the last 3 or 4 games of the season, our midfield had lacked scoring, particularly from long range, I think Ballack could fill the void for the next 2 seasons. I'd put him in Hudd's place as he is better than Hudd in every aspect of the game; even in tackles and in speed, and he has much more fire in him then the trepidity shown by Hudd.
