Can't really argue with Messi but I think the list is quite harsh on some players, especially in those in the premier league to be honest. There are way too few defenders on that list too.

Link

1. Lionel Messi (Argentine, FC Barcelone) : 473 points
2. Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal, Manchester United puis Real Madrid) : 233 pts
3. Xavi (Espagne, FC Barcelone) : 170 pts
4. Andrès Iniesta (Espagnol, FC Barcelone) : 149 pts
5. Samuel Eto'o (Cameroun, FC Barcelone puis Inter Milan) : 75 pts
6. Kaka (Brésil, Milan AC puis Real Madrid) : 58 pts
7. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Suède, Inter Milan puis FC Barcelone) : 50 pts
8. Wayne Rooney (Angleterre, Manchester United): 35 pts
9. Didier Drogba (Côte d'Ivoire, Chelsea): 33 pts
10. Steven Gerrard (Angleterre, Liverpool) : 32 pts
11. Fernando Torres (Espagne, Liverpool): 22 pts
12. Cesc Fabregas (Espagne, Arsenal) : 13 pts
13. Edin Dzeko (Bosnie, Wolfsburg) : 12 pts
14. Ryan Giggs (Pays de Galles, Manchester United) : 11 pts
15. Thierry Henry (France, FC Barcelone) : 9 pts
16. Luis Fabiano (Brésil, FC Séville), Nemanja Vidic (Serbie, Manchester United), Iker Casillas (Espagne, Real Madrid): 8 pts
19. Diego Forlan (Uruguay, Atletico Madrid) : 7 pts
20. Yoann Gourcuff (France, Bordeaux) : 6 pts
21. Andreï Archavine (Russie, Arsenal), Julio Cesar (Brésil, Inter Milan), Frank Lampard (Angleterre, Chelsea) : 5 pts
24. Maicon (Brésil, Inter Milan) : 4 pts
25. Diego (Brésil, Werder Brême puis Juventus Turin) : 3 pts
26. David Villa (Espagne, Valence), John Terry (Angleterre, Chelsea) : 2 pts

Lampard or Terry, both former contenders, slipped considerably this year. Can't really argue that any of the top ten don't deserve to be right up there. Nice to see Giggs back up amongst the top flight though, still amazes me the level he competes at after all this time.

Really pleased for Messi, have a sneaky feeling this won't be the last time he wins it.

Amazing stat for Messi last season, 51 games he either scored or made a goal, that is phenomenal.

I assume those points are roundings. Otherwise I demand my place alongside Karim Benzema.

Possibly Rooney over Ibra on CL performances, but Ibra was immense for Inter last season and top scorer in Serie A. I think both players will be higher on the list this time next year.

Not sure Ibra will but I imagine Rooney will. I say that because Sweden aren't in the world cup not because I think he's rubbish. I think in this country he is very underated. Also looking at the players above him though I can only see him overtaking Eto'o.

The balon d'or is largely a club based trophy. If it was for international performances xavi, iniesta and villa would be at the top as Messi is a different player for Argentina. So I think if Ibra gets over 20 goals for barca this season plus more success in the CL he could move up the list

Maybe, but I don't remember Cannavaro doing much in the Champions league in 2005/2006.

I don't remember George Weah ever playing in a WC for Liberia but he won it 1995. It is largely based on club football. WC years like when Canna won it in 2006 are different, he was phenomenal in that tournament and lifted the WC.

There wasn't a world cup in 1995.

Whenever there it has been a world cup year it is more likely to come from a players international record.

2006 the winner was Cannavaro
2002 the winner was Ronaldo
1998 the winner was Zidane

My point was that it will be harder for Ibrahimovic to win or improve on his ranking as it is more then likely somebody will have an amazing world cup or a least a good world cup along with a good season for there club. Therefore making it harder. If Ibrahimovic is amazing for Barca and nobody really stands out in the world cup then maybe he will improve his ranking.

I want to know how John Terry got more votes than Ribery!

I imagine that there isn't enough interest in the Bundesliga (which Bayern didn't win) and Bayern got humiliated by Barcelona in the champions league whereas England have been improving and Chelsea were unlucky (some might say, not me. I laughed and laughed and laughed) in the champions league semi against Barca

I know there wasn't, the point I was making is that Weah never played in a WC and all his awards were club performance related, hence Messi winning it this year. I get your point about the WC year, but I think Ibra will really step it up a notch at Barca as he has shown so far and will get more points. After Villa or Torres are no doubt top scorers at the WC i'm sure they will be higher in that list next year as well
