Before you guys go ripping into the guy, stop and think. Maybe someone close to him took their own life and it still hurts

Sorry but why should they? The guy clearly hasn't paid the same respect to people who have taken their own life.

Until you've walked a mile in someone elses shoes...

Loads of tributes from shocked colleagues from the football world on Sky News.

There will be a minute's silence before the Swansea game today in tribute.

So sad. Always liked him as a player, and seemed to be a talented manager.

RIP Gary Speed.

Wasn't he Shearers best mate or am I getting confused?

Sorry, but there's no excuse for taking your own life like that. When I heard he had died, I was genuinely saddened. But now that I know he did it himself, I have no sympathy for him.

My thoughts and sympathies go out to his family that now have to live with the fact that he decided he no longer wanted to be around for them. And especially to the poor soul who found him who is now probably scarred for life.

Terrible post.

Very weird, what was all that about?

The applause was OK but I thought the chanting was a bit crass, the minutes silence is supposed to be contemplative isn't it? Applause can be justified as celebrating a person but the chanting was just tacky IMO.

Probably because theres always a few idiots during a minutes silence and so best to drown them out. Either way i feel an applause is a better way to celebrate someones life.

This is unbelievable, I'm just in shock about it. RIP Gary Speed. Such a nice guy, seemed so together and would've never thought him to be troubled by the way he behaved. This is just so sad. Young guy, loved by so many, young family, as uncontroversial a bloke as you could hope for. I'm just not sure how to react to something like this.

It was a football crowd's way of showing respect, a genuine act. Not tacky, quite moving.

I don't think anyone would have heckled during the silence today, I think they just felt it more fitting to go with applause than silence.

It's only my opinion, like I said I can appreciate the applause but I thought the chanting was a poor choice, it died down pretty quickly so those who started it probably realised this too.

The chanting was certainly misjudged. I also feel that nobody should be taking it upon themselves to turn a minute's silence into a minute of applause. Just my opinion, of course.
