Being too hard on Walker?

Unlike most footballers he seems to be his own severest critic. Surely this can only help him improve.

He is suffering 2nd season syndrome, made worse by the fact that it follows a very good first season, however, he seems to be suffering from a complete lack of confidence ( a spell on the bench will do him good), and defensively he is regularly caught ball watching and not tracking runs that he should at this level, he is only young however, and will be a great right back given time and the correct coaching. Naughton deserves a run at right back as he has done a great job when asked to fill in on the wrong side at left back.

He's just taken a step back after many, many steps forward. He could do with a little break, refresh the mind, then he can kick on.

I've no worries about him.

Sorry but because he is young and still making mistakes doesn't make it any better that he HAS cost us games - if he is not quite ready then maybe we need a more experienced RB to help show him his mistakes - sorry we are challenging for fourth in the EPL, you don't get time to make mistakes and get away for it - If he is not up for it (and I don't think he is quite ready) then we need someone who is!
Don't get me wrong I like the lad and his attitude, but bottom line is, as a defender, he ain't that great - good going forward, but way to many mistakes at this level to be number 1 RB
Man Utd did it with Rafael.

As said before, he needs a rest from the pressure for a few games, naughton deserves a chance to show what he can do as well. I still think walker will be very good, but for now he needs a break imo

Harsh criticism of him i think. We are lucky to have both Kyle's in the squad

Maybe he needs a funny song that will show that the fans are on his side

I think what he says is fair. He was so good last season, he set the bar high. This season i think he has still played pretty well- and saved a goal on Saturday with his speed.

His best was the first part of last season, where he played with no fear and bombed up the wing relentlessly. I wonder if he was told not to or thought that as serious senior player he should stop doing that? Whatever it was, i think we should encourage him to play like that again- it terrifies the opposition, he is quick enough to get back most of the time anyway or someone can cover him.

I've seen him have bad games and yet I've always been impressed by how angry he seems to get with himself and how determined he appears to be to improve. He seems to have that ability to assess himself objectively without allowing it to get him down. Over the years and in the longer term players like that - the ones with character - tend to be the ones who do better. I wonder whether this is one of the characteristics he has and whether this is one of the reasons managers have such faith in him.

Absolutely this. He's definitely got room for improvement in his game, but he also strikes me very much as a player who will bust a gut to make that improvement in himself. Like a young Frank Lampard at West Ham, he's a great prospect and nothing more at the moment, but just like Lampard he looks like someone who will put in the hard work on the training pitch to ensure that he fully maximises whatever talent he does have.

Think he needs to start doing what he is talking about in terms of attitude and working on his game. This may be harsh as I know footballers have a lot of free time, but every game now he seems to have either another tattoo or another daft haircut, and to me, that just doesn't give off the impression of someone who is *really* working at his game when he is in a tough spot. I know that is being really picky, but I guess things like that are just accentuated when a player is on a terrible run of form.

I suppose I've been harsh on him recently, the lads determined, and a great athlete, just got to get a cooler head and be more composed on the ball. Hopefully that'll come after a while.

I like him. He is honest and a real trier We could do worse. He is only 22. Full backs like CB's take time to mature and he has brilliant pace as well. I am happy we have him and I think AVB persists with him because he sees that quality.

I do think he gets a bit of the Jenas treatment on here but he's also guilty of just doing a few stupid things on the football pitch.

In saying that like he said himself he is still young and learning, plus his pace has been useful, like with him saving Dawson against Reading. I just hope we don't see any more of a decline in his play and that he starts improving, even if only doing so slowly.

He's right about expectations, but Ive always thought he was a little over-rated to begin with. He covers a great deal of ground because of his pace and work-rate, and thats important, but he doesnt do anything particularly well in all of that space. And he's also right that that can be corrected, so time will tell with Walker. I dont mind cutting him a break, but I also dont think he should be immune from a spell on the bench. He's been pretty bad this year.

Some of the abuse and personal comments he's had on here, particularly from a couple of specific individuals repeatedly, is fucking disgraceful to be honest.

I've never understood this bizarre desire some people have to refer to our players as pricks, ****s, morons, etc etc etc but a few people seem incapable of expressing legitimate criticism without resorting to frankly worryingly aggressive and very personal insults.

The reality is though he's having a shit season, not the odd bad game. He has looked great in the past, but if Charlie was still with us he'd be out of the team right now. He needs to get his act together.

needs to start using his left foot for simple passes and clearances. Watch him closely he avoids it.

This pretty much sums it up.

This thread and the critism of some is also why many other clubs see Spurs fans as deluded.

We think we are better than we are, all the time. Fact is most clubs in the league would love to have Walker in their side, super fast, can shootm, can tackle, is strong, is young and is English - a future england star to be honest. What do we do?

Spurs fans do what they always do...

There isn't a single player who performs without mistakes, ever - he made one or two this year, I've thought he's done well on the whole to be honest.
Maybe we could start supporting our players a little bit, and give them a well needed bump up, rather than getting on their backs.
