If that's the situation then Sevilla will be tied but whether we want Capel or he wants to come here is the most important point.

I thought the problem with Capel is that he's got some sort of mental problem where he can barely leave Seville for long.

WTF!!!??? really?? I see its been said its Navas, but i've never heard of this.. Thats kinda funny, bit like Bergkamps refusal to fly, therefore The arse losing one of their best players for big European nights.. lol.

His release clause is 8 million, i think after another two games, it's up to ten million. Either one, is a good price for a talented player, like Capel.

He says

1. We definitely want the defender from rangers (i assume he means cuellar)

2. We are going full steam on getting capel

3. he has heard nothing on the portugal based target (veloso i assume)

would love Cuellar - from what I've seen - top class

we won't get Capel or any Seville player- have been confidnetly predicting this for months -still say the same -their chairman won't allow it - and yes I know about the release clause :)

The same way he was able to stop Ramos joining us...?

Navas isn't 'mental' as some are saying.

It is a bit like the Bergkamp thing, he has bad homesickness and doesnt like flying.

fair comment JJ :) but for whatever reason I never thought that ramos would be stopped from coming to us -by their chairman - I just have a different feeling about the players

Cuellar was in the paper weeks ago and again to today in Daily Mail; and Diego Capel has been linked ever since Ramos took over.
Let's see...

Capel has been linked to us for so long that if something were to happen, it would have happened; like the Modric transfer. I think this is a dead duck.

AIUI the issue with Capel is that his release clause (probably around 11 million Euros) is around or just below his fair market value. So, any big club needing a young LM/LW of great potential will definitely have him on their short list.

Apparently his agent has offered him to clubs such as Real Madrid and Barca (and if Barca get a new coach, their formation may change radically). I would suspect that Capel would rather move to Real Madrid or Barca and stay in Spain if he had the chance.

However, if Capel has still not joined another club in a few weeks time, then we may have more of a chance of persuading him to come to London, and we would then trigger his release clause.

The only outstanding issue would be if his supposed release clause only runs until say the end of June? Or whether it's valid until he signs a new contract in which case we could sign him as late as August.

As has been repeated ad nauseum by many; Capel is good, has a reasonable buy-out clause but there is no way Sevilla will deal with us. Technically they are obliged to but in practice they can make it impossible.

To put this to bed(maybe). Seville can do nothing, the contracts are registered with the Spanish FA so as soon as you inform the FA you plan to trigger the release clause the FA give permission to speak to the player and the club can do nothing. Real Madrid signed Sergio Ramos in this way minutes before a deadline.

Cuellar plays for Rangers and is average in the SPL (despite what the loyal fans say about him). He is just about at the level of Dawson but, in my mind, is not an advance on our current playing staff. COYS!
