Hi guys.

Have sent an email to spurs asking for an explanation as to the benfica supporters in the home sections last night and here is it...

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to express my shock, anger and disappointment at the way in which the club failed to handle the large amounts of Benfica supporters sitting in the home sections throughout the ground.

I have been a season ticket holder for 8-9 years and for the club to have so little thanks and respect for our supporters is disgusting. I sit in block J on the east upper and last night upon arrival to my seat I saw that 50-60% of the people around me were wearing Benfica shirts, scarfs, hats and waving Portuguese flags. My Dad, Brother and I, along with the other Spurs fans nearby were made to feel the minority in our own season ticket seats that we had payed extortionate prices for anyway.

As I am sure you are aware, when buying a ticket for a home game it is clearly pointed out online and by phone that the tickets are for "home supporters only and anyone found supporting the opposition will be ejected from the ground without refund." I am therefore curious as to how all of these away supporters were firstly permitted entry to the stadium and secondly allowed to stay for the duration of the game when they were quite clearly there to support the opposition. Singing throughout, cheering their teams goals and even booing the Spurs players when on the ball.

Having payed £46 for my seat I feel I have a right to be compensated for a night that wasn't spoilt by the bad result, but instead ruined by the clubs decision to not stick to their word and eject the visiting supporter.

I look forward to hearing from you

Tom Knowles.

They were everywhere mate, North upper there were loads of them.
You might want to remove your client reference number from your post, theres bound to be some scam that someone can use it for.

He has but people can still read it in your post since you quoted his original post (you need to edit that too to stop his membership number being exposed)

Is this not quite common for some of the European matches? I remember last year being sat around a load of Inter fans (East Upper too).

I have a feeling that Stub Hub would have contributed to this
It's clearly stub hub that sold them their tickets but that's irrelevant. It still states when you buy a ticket that you will be ejected without refund if found to be supporting the opposition.

There were quite a few around me in the West Upper. But I guess the seats have some kind of mystic energy as the Benfica fans were quiet through out. Atleast the ones near me..

It's not irrelevant, it further demonstrates that our ticketing partner is not fit for purpose.

That being said, the stewards should have dealt with it. It probably wasn't the fault of the rank and file steward but those who oversee them

There was a game a few years ago against a Polish team where there was an 'invasion' too iirc? I think this problem precedes the club linking up with Stub Hub.

Did you complain to any of the stewards last night? If so, what did they say?

It's irrelevant in the sense that if those benfica supporters wanted a ticket for the match they would have got one somehow. It's the fact that they were permitted entry then allowed to stay. The match went to general sale so it is possible that most of them bought tickets over the phone to the ticket office.

The two stewards at my gate said "until they become threatening or violent there is nothing we can do". To which I said that is not the message the club give out when you purchase the tickets. Like someone else said, they're only doing as they're told, it's the stadium management / club officials that call the shots.

Maybe we could kill two birds with one stone by removing Sherwood as manager and putting him in charge of stewarding.

There were three across the gangway from me in block 32. The stewards took them out after about 15 minutes. Glad they did as there were some unsavoury characters in there last night, myself excluded of course.

I agree. How dare we have a manager who talks like he is from London and not with a foreign accent!:)
