I have never understood Bentley, I was really pleased when we bought him, he is supposedly very fast (never saw it) He is talented and has two great feet. He should have kept Thudd on the Bench.. But he cant even buy a game at Birmingham!

I was living near Potters Bar when he got thumped at that Italian Resturant at Bell Bar!

Why did it go so wrong is he just crap or what, is it in his head?

I am being serous here. Is it we paid too much and he wants out and is just winding his contract down!

He had a few good games for us last season. I still think he's talented and could have done well for us, but his head just doesn't seem to be in the right place for some reason.

sad state of affair if he cant even start for relegation strugglers, though i think he has got talent, and would do a decent job for a prem team who has a really good target man to whip crosses too.

infact if liverpool dont get ashley young then Bentley would do well linking up with carrol, but his star is faded so much now that a club like sunderland is probably the best he can hope for

I thought this was going to be a thread about Darren Bent's legs.

But in all seriousness, I think it's an attitude problem.

i thought bentley had more good games for us than bad. pace is not something i ever saw from him though. and i don't agree he should have kept hudd out of team.

he should be playing for brum. that move should have been like ohara to pompey, the right thing for the player at the time. for spurs i think it was a mixture of temperament but more our squad. lennon, hudd, modric, kranky, jenas,... someone has to suffer. kranjcar is also under used

Yeah but he crashed his Porsche drunk and he was doing the playboy image, he larks about but fails deliver on the field. My Hudd ref.. is more about where he should have played with his talent and less where he needed to fit in. Kranjar and Pieneer were asset stripping buys!

For all his undeniable talent, he does not have the heart or desire to succeed at the highest level.

The problem is how much of a financial hit will we incur when we look to offload him again this summer as i'm sure his value to Levy and his value to prospective clubs will be miles apart.

Isn't he more interested in running hsi clubs?

Pure speculation, but I have a feeling that there might be some sort of clause in his contract that means we'd have to pay more if he was sold before a certain time...which might be why he's still officially a Spurs player. Could be a similar situation with Gio.

He's not got the mental fortitude for being in the spotlight and just reverts to being a small child. Which is a terrible shame because for a while I thought he was going to be [*cringe*] the 'next Beckham' for us.

So did I and I also thought he did well for us last year until he was injured

Yeah and I thought he gave Lennon a good run for his money - kept him on his toes, which I suppose is the ideal world. 22 players, each vying for a starting position. One wins, one loses - the loser puts in more effort, the winner the same - a win win for THFC.

Granted, but this is the problem when people make their transfer window wishlists and continue to churn out phrases of 'getting rid of deadwood' and think we can realistically quote ridiculous prices - I just can't see us getting a half decent return on Bentley and mores the point, the buying clubs know full well of this.

Honestly, I can't see him going for more than £6million but on top of that, i'm sure he stills sees himself as a top half Premier League player as well so that could well rule out the likes of Blackburn, Fulham etc. with also his wages could prove a sticking point.

I thought he got injured two or three weeks ago hence not getting games for Brum. I thought the reason he went to Blackburn was to get away from "mates" so he could get his head down and play football. I don't know maybe playing for Wenger had a deep psychological effect on him...

I don't think Brum was the right move for him. They have Seb Larrson on the RW who is a very very good player (a lot better than Bentley IMO).

They were playing him on the left wing after Seb returned so he probably got the hump (unless he was injured). He would have been better of going to somewhere like Blackburn where he would have started every week, in his correct position, and got some game time in.

He isnt in the Birmingham team currently as he is on his way back from a groin injury. Was on the bench at the weekend due to it.
