Glad he didn't try to link it to our losing the game. We didn't play well enough and were punished.

I am probably being naive, but both were well timed in Besiktas's favour.

Also, I thought we didn't play too bad (no end product though) until the goal, to which we were the architects to our own downfall and then after that we looked defensively fragile....particularly through the middle.

Lastly, it says a lot for Kaboul, that Vlad looked the less suspect of our 2 CB's last night

The most laughable thing was not the floodlights but performances of the Spurs players, notably:

Saldado - couldn't score in a brothel and is no way worth 28m pounds. We will be lucky to recoup half of that. I think the technical director should be sacked based on this player alone, never mind the money we paid for Lamella! What a waste of money. If only we had kept Bale, how different things could have been.
Rose - Does not understand what it means to defend - very poor - silly mistakes cost us games. Maybe sell to Sunderland as seemed to fit in better there. Is simply a very poor defender.
Townsend - the only thing he does consistently is give the ball away. We should sell to QPR while he has any kudos left

The game was largely boring & only a handful came out with any real hope. Stambouli looked OK; Walker is getting his sharpness back; Dembele looked like he could do something, but once again too many passengers out there.

Kaboul started to look OK in the 1st half, but for some reason thought overplaying it in his own half & reverting to the wreck he has been since the season began was the way to go for the 2nd half. It was staggering how much he shied away from their winger when he entered the box, just before they scored. Instead of engaging him quickly & facing him up, he was literally standing on the goal-line. Great captaincy there.

The pitch was awful & we couldn't play a decent game at all. Some of the short passing was actually quite good despite the pitch condition. I'm not entirely sure why Soldado hasn't kicked on from the Everton game, but he had a couple of great opportunities & yet again he didn't make telling contribution. Townsend just looks very ordinary & doesn't seem to know how to change up his game.

All that game proved was what we already know: 5-6 players need selling on & we need those types who can play a high-press game.

The Poch needs his own players & not the 'hand-me-downs' of that fraud who manages Zenit. I still believe in the Poch.

I didn't think we played that bad either but wasn't cynical enough.

Roberto Soldado was poor, the lads confidence just isn't there. I watch him on You Tube last night after the game, just to remind me of what we had actually brought.

To me, him at his best, he's an instinctive finisher. A six yard fox in a box.

A Gerd Muller/Gary Linekerequse penalty finisher, a traditional goal hanger.

We've just misused him over the past season and drained all the confidence in him.

AVB and Tim Sherwood destroyed his confidence and although I don't think he was ever worth 26 million, the fact that I don't remember him scoring goals against the big two in Spain, I still think he could have a decent player on our hands.

I think with support of Harry Kane, someone to do the Donkey work, he can concentrate on what he is good at which is being a penalty pick pocket.

As a positive, at least he's getting chances more in the last two games, he's probably going to take three or four games to get going.

I think if he's given a run, he'll score at least 10 goals.

We played to win the game, when all we needed was a point. Defensive ineptitude and naive tactics cost us. I am afraid the manager has to take some responsibility as it was his team and I can only assume they were carrying out his instructions. If AVB was in charge, he would have certainly got a draw.
