Glenn Hoddle. The debut against Stoke when he scored that blinder, to the half way challenge and keeper dummy to the Man U away in the Cup goal to his England goal against Hungary and so on.

Simply the best with Gazza an extremely close second, followed by Alfie.

Alfie Conn was brilliant for us. I was real young at the time of him leaving and couldn't understand why he was gone.

How can anyone say Berba?

As great as you think he has been maybe your opinion has been affected by the sheer mediocrity we have suffered in the last few years. Berba all to rarely delivered in the big games (this season he scored 2 goals against the top four) but sh!tloads against the dross.

I personally can't spilt Gazza in 90/91 or Waddle's last season.

Gazza and Waddle's last seasons stick out for me.

I remember being in hospital recovering from a footie injury when my dad bought me the newspaper confirming Waddle's transfer to Marseille. I cried and would happily have broken the other wrist to make the news different that day.

Big Martin Chivers in 71/72. Martin took time to settle in when we first signed him (lining up with Greavesy & Gilzean seemed to overawe him at first) and then he suffered an horredous knee injury. However, when Greavesy left he gradually found his form and was truly unstoppable in 72. Don Revie said that the only Spurs player his Leeds team of the early 70s feared was Big Chiv. Reminds me of Drogba.

Hi Gosford, good point about Big Chiv :)- he more or less had the lot for a centre forward - strength, pace, good in the air, fearsome shot, knew where the goal was and in that magical period of 71 & 72 he really delivered

vital goals in the lge cup and UEFA cup finals

and the day him and jennings both put in 10/10 performances for us to beat the mighty leeds at leeds (unfortunately that opened up the way for AFC to do the double and win the lge on our ground - but hey ho :)

oh and re Berbs not performing v the top 4
(another post) - what about his tremendous performance in the 5-1 - no goals but absoutely pivotal on the night - what about the two goals he created for keane at Anfield - and was it his fault it was Keane not him taking the pens at AFC - cos he scored, then won a pen that could have taken us to victory had he taken it etc

he was really unlucky not to score at OT early in the season and there was a penalty shout that he created that could well have been given - so I just don't accept he doesnt perform against top 4 - of course they're the hardest to perform against

I also rember how we had both CFC and AFC on the rack in cup games season before last, then when Berbs went off our chances crumbled

Has to be Gazza 90/91
Waddle The year he left.

I always wander what would have happened if Waddle had stayed that extra year. I fear we may think the same of Berbs if he goes this year

Has to be Waddle 88/89, he was truly stunning that year, not much else of note that season other than some top class performances from Gazza and Fenwick from the spot.

Yes. I've posted several times that one of the most enjoyable games I've ever watched was at Elland Road in 1970-71, when I was at uni in Leeds. Chiv just cruised through their defence—it was like the parting of the Red Sea—and scored twice in a memorable win.

It would have been even more enjoyable if the idiot stewards had let me and my mate in with the Spurs fans ('Look, do we sound as if we're from Yorkshire?') so we had to internalise the celebrations. On the other hand, we were right behind Sprake's goal.

Clive Allen 86/87.
Gazza....one of the most gifted players to enter White Hart Lane.
Hoddle.....Seemed to be ahead of his time.
Greaves.....(Early 60s ?) fantastic, so good to watch.
I love Greaves, so that's what my heart picks....Allen, as close to a dead heat as you can get.
(In fact, i cant separate them).

Come to think about it, we could make cases for a whole load of Spurs players......

(Similar to reflecting on old girlfriends and lovers!)
