Poor Jermain, as if his family have been through enough in the last couple of years

The Defoe's certainly seem to have mastered the art of family tragedy.

Because what all the displaced families and people who are helping to search for survivors need is a good book.

I'm not sure how serious you were being with that post, but education is far more highly valued in places where it's not so easy to take for granted.

Having lost his brother not that long ago, I hope his family isn't facing another tragedy.

I'm not saying it's not a worthwhile cause under normal circumstances, but it just seems an odd thought process at this time: My uncle has gone missing, there are many displaced families who need water, food and shelter, I know I'll send them 1,000 books. It may take up valuable space on an aid plane which could be carrying vital supplies, medicines or search and rescue equipment, but I'm sure they'll be happy to receive the latest Harry Potter, I suppose they could always burn it to keep warm.

I somehow doubt they were Harry Potter books...

Many of the aid agencies regard keeping children's educations going, reopening schools etc as a priority in times of disaster. I'm no expert myself, but I'm happy to accept that they probably know what they're doing.
