I was worried by the ease with which the ball was switched to the wings, especially to Reus. This means that the forwards and midfield weren't pressing their midfield enough, and that our full backs aren't disciplined regards positional sense.

I suppose that is the first time we have been thrashed all season which is unusual for us. It just makes the second leg almost redundant. You never know though.

Why? They chose to go to support the team; they weren't promised a line up. They did their job of supporting the team.

Bit of a paradox ....

Team..

A team is a group of people or other animals linked in a common purpose. Human teams are especially appropriate for conducting tasks that are high in complexity and have many interdependent subtasks.

A group does not necessarily constitute a team. Teams normally have members with complementary skills and generate synergy through a coordinated effort which allows each member to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. Naresh Jain (2009) claims:

Team members need to learn how to help one another, help other team members realize their true potential, and create an environment that allows everyone to go beyond his or her limitations. Teams can be broken down into from a huge team or one big group of people, even if these smaller secondary teams are temporary.[1]

Also that Reus just has Trippier done for pace every day of the week. Walker might have been a better bet...

It is funny how we all care about the europa league all of a sudden. Not long ago it was a burden. That lineup was never going to beat dortmund, we can still win the league and I dont think we will need th eruopa for champions league football either.

It is all set up for liverpool v dortmund lets hope dortmund do the same ot them.

That was utter, utter bollocks.

They pretend they're taking it seriously, big the game up all week so everyone buys tickets for the return leg and they then put out that disgraceful team against Borussia fucking Dortmund.

They should give the fans that went tonight all their money back and give everyone who has bought a ticket for next Thursday the option for a refund too.

Fucking disgraceful.
Sorry, who is 'they'? Because I'm not sure Poch cares about ticket promotion, and the social media team don't pick the starting XI.

The club, obviously. They shouldn't do the fans the disservice if Pochettino doesn't agree.

He knew full well what team he was going to put out so the club shouldn't have made it something it wasn't going to be.

Pochettino doesn't have to inform the club what team he's going to select. The people at the top, quite rightly, stay out of that stuff.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

I just hope that we are really going all out to win the league now, like nuts on the line performances for the rest of the season.

I have no interest in just playing for the CL places and become like Arsenal were (prior to at least their FA Cup wins) where basically the aim was to get top 4 and finish above us and not a lot else when the potential was there to do more.

Maybe now. When Jol was in charge there was a well-publicised event where Levy insisted that Jol play Berbatov in a cup game against Chelsea...and he did.

Crikey, don't suppose you think that was a bit over-intellectual? We lost a match to a better team.

I think the fans saw a superb team and being true football fans, appreciated what they saw. Our travelling fans are on a par with any: they are very classy.

I know some ppl dont like it but by picking that line up for tonight, we have given our chances of winning the league a massive boost!

I agree.

Tonight is conclusive proof that Pochettino thinks we can win the league with a clear schedule and we should all be well up for that.

I think Poch massively underrated & somewhat disrespected a team which is up there with the best or certainly next tier and was hoping our patchwork team could do enough, maybe draw or lose by an odd goal. I'm not going to dig him out because he's leading a season way above my expectations and doesn't often get things wrong but disappointed is an understatement of my feelings both when I saw our lineup and then watched the game unfold

Pretty sure Poch knows exactly how good Dortmund are.

Which, I suspect, is why he sent out a second string.

Exactly.

And I've got tickets for the home leg. Still fucking well excited - especially as this Dortmund side are exactly what we ae aspiring to be.

I was about to make a comment about the team selection, but I just checked our line-up against Fiorentina away and we had exactly the same starting eleven except Alli in place of Onomah. Ok, admittedly Fiorentina aren't on the same level as Dortmund, but perhaps this line-up shouldn't be such a huge surprise to everyone.

I think today also shows the importance of Dier to the team. Even when he isn't playing well he's crucial to our shape, and gives us a defensive solidity that we sorely miss when he's not playing. Today's performance reminded me of how we played last season: tidy enough in possession but defensively open and prone to conceding. It was the first time this season we've lost by more than one goal - something that happened countless times last season with Mason and Bentaleb in the middle.

Also, Dortmund are a hell of a side and should cruise their way to the final.
