In the article it says £21m might not be enough.
I suppose if we were really up for spending £26m on SB at the end of the last window the money would still be in place in Jan and we would have some dead wood we could sell to offset the fee/wage increase at least (though you're right no way would Townsend and Carroll fetch anything like that much currently)

I read somewhere that Spurs made an inquiry in the summer but balked at paying over 10m for him. If that's all they valued then, I can't see how the management would be willing to pay much more than double the amount 6 months later. I am afraid that this boat has sailed, now that rich teams are sniffing around.

We could, but you know we won't and Levy wouldn't.
.
That would be ridiculous. We need an extra striker. The money was there in august (we did bid for Berahino), so Levy's just going to have to cough up...

Levy needs to invest in the squad. Because we have a great crop of young players we dont have to throw 200m at it but there has to be money for a few quality additions...

i don't know if we have the means or that we are interested but this would be an unreal signing similar to buying Son, so i do have some hope. A player of absolute attacking quality and a player that gives us something more in tough matches and if we sign him i'd donate twenty quid to sc, would be absolutely brilliant

Fucking hell, the transfer forum is back already? Im not ready for silly season yet. Christ. Pushing silly season right now is like companies pushing halloween movies and fall beers out in august and winter beers, christmas movies, songs and commercials out before thanksgiving. We have unwritten rules for this shit in society. Silly season is 2 weeks before the window open, you can possibly make a case for 3. Fall beer season is after Labor Day. Halloween season is October. Christmas season begins after Thanksgiving weekend. Rules are rules.

Wrt Embolo, I think he could be a good one in the future, and at least serve as a decent foil to Kane currently. We desperately need another striker. Would love to bring him in, but I dont think we should go up to £25m for him. Hell, I had a problem with that price for Berahino. However, if it comes down to overpaying for him or do nothing again, I'd take the jump. As of this moment, we are in very good position to at least make 4th, very possible to get 3rd at this point to. We have to take advantage of this and fill this hole in the squad with quality. Sell Townsend and Carroll to help with the cost. If we are still in this position by January, or in a better position, it would be sheer incompetence to not fill the obvious hole in the side.

The money wasn't there in the summer. We wanted to pay over 5 years.

That's a sad state of affairs if true... Levy really is squeezing the club dry to build the stadium - and the value of his shares...

Or you can look at it another way and say he has done a marvelous job, building a new training centre, improving us on the pitch and getting a £500m stadium going all on a shoe string budget.
