I think whatever we're lacking won't be addressed in one transfer window, as soon as we see to one thing, another pops up, temper expectation, enjoy the more attractive window and that's progress. I think (or hope) we'll be a very very good team in the next 12 to 18 months.
Give me a break. I'm 84, 5 months and 14 days old. For all I know I may not see next week. :)

Feels very odd going into a new season without Harry having been part of our squad for such a long time.

I’m sure it’s been mentioned but one thing I haven’t seen discussed with Kane going is his role in defending set plays.

Won a lot of headers from these. I’m not sure who will pick up this responsibility now. One less tall centre back as well if we are playing a back 4. I don’t feel like we are a particularly tall team either.
This is a good point but I think we do have height in the team.

The players were dropping out of the side vs last season (on the face of it) are

Lloris -> Vicario
Dier -> VDV
Davies -> Udogie
Sess -> Maddison
Hoj -> Bissouma
Kane -> Richi

I don’t think that’s a huge sacrifice in the air, Sess to Maddison is a downgrade in the air defensively (maybe Dier/VDV too) but I’d argue Bissouma and Udogie are upgrades and the rest on par.

I agree, we are really going to miss him.

But hopefully some other players will step up and fill some of that.void as they won't be in his shadow anymore.

Positives:
Having Maddison can fill the creativity we lost.
Playing on the front foot will give everyone and the fans something to look forward to.
Richarlison will raring to go and prove he is the man to fill Kanes shoes.

I think a lot of opposition fans might get a bit of a shock playing us early season. No doubt opposing managers and players will have studied our pre-season, but other fans won't have watched us in large numbers and will be assuming we're going to be the low block, boring, Conte style team but without even Kane. They won't expect Ange's high possession pressing style - and I think that's where a lot of the 'just a mid-table team now' chat has come from.

It might take a while to click but this isn't 'same old Spurs'.

People seem to think its between Skipp and Sarr for the final midfield spot. Just wondering is GLC not being considered because people think he's a rotation for maddison? I think he could play alongside him no problem.

Also it'll be interesting to see if Hojbjerg is given the nod today. The fact he wasn't named as a vice captain says a lot.

Have to be able to implement that style in the games that matter

Feeling a weird mixture of emotions heading to this match

Looking forward to watching us play for the first time in ages...
...but think we could quite easily lose given we're transitioning to an entirely new way of playing and its the first game without Harry

Could see us having a very patchy start to the season...
...but think it will click and we'll finish very strongly

I think we'll absolutely hammer some teams, especially at home...
...but worry we could get taken apart away to the bigger sides (looking at City away on December 2)

We now have a midfield with many different qualities and I don't think there'll necessarily be a '1st choice' MF. This week Skipp might be considered the best player with his qualities, next week it might be GLC for that game. Can't remember the last time we could tailor our midfield to play in a certain way, or against a certain team - it's just been a case of whoever's available and fit, and needing them to adapt their own game.

I was up town last night, and the very first bar I walked in to (sports bar at Victoria) a load of Arsenal fans came up to me asking if I’d be in their photos as they always try and get as many random people in their photos as they can, for a laugh..

Obv I told them to fuck off.

Anyway, Frank is a clever coach, but he’s never come up against Ange's style of football/Spursball/SpAngeball/Spungeball/SpongeBob… That’s it, Frank has never seen SpongeBob, so he’s fucked. 1-3 to us.

Two people giving this as off topic 🤷🏽

It’s our first game of the season with a new manager, system and players (one key one missing for reason above and others). Valid point to make and one of interest to look out for in todays game.

Feeling oddly calm and excited about today and this season in general. Pundits and fans alike are branding us a mid table side with Kane now gone and that is strangely comforting. Feels like there is no pressure or expectation to win consistently anymore. Added to the fact that with Kane gone, there’s no pressure to be successful just to appease a single player. I think if we trim this squad and add a few quality players, we could be on for a good season. 6th and a trophy would be incredible for me.

With that said, i’ll have my torch and pitchfork ready to call for Ange’s head at full time just in case.

Would be over the moon to have one of the following match winners and following narratives.

Richarlison - Our new main striker!
Maddison - Our new number 10!
Son - Our new captain!
That would be nice but I'm more easily pleased than that. I'd be happy for anyone to be our match winner, even it that means it bounces off the ar*e of a Brentford defender into the back of their net....
