Would you go for Shearer as the next England manager..? I know there is a big question mark about if he would even consider it but that aside maybe the players need someone they actually respect for what they have achieved as a player, someone who’s held their own at that level.

I voted yes, but can't for the life of me explain why.

With that sort of thinking, I should surely be on the FA board?

Nothing to rescue is there really, we're OUT and don't have a competitive game t'ill next september 2008.

What we need is someone to build the team from scratch and play friendlies against good opposition as the teams that have qualified for Euro2008 will be looking for a good sparring partner.

ok but look at some of the other countries that have thought outside of the box a little (Croatia for example). How many more times will we bring in a new coach so that he can start from scratch and play a number of systems that don't work. Shearer summed it up perfectly last night when he said we don’t play other systems good enough, we've been winning with 4-4-2 so why change that...

I don't think Shearer has what it takes to make it as England manager. If someone like Ferguson, Wenger or Mourinho were manager the players would have been bricking it at the thought of entering the dressing room 2-0 down. Lampard and Gerrard would realise that if they didn't pull their socks up they would get dropped. We need someone the players will fear. Someone that the players would give 110% for because if they didn't they would get dropped.

No experience. But then the germans said the same about their former start striker (Klinsmann) but he got then to the semi-finals. However he didn't have to qualify. I can see him maybe getting a temporary job until after Euro 2008, if the man the FA want in charge is currently managing a team in Euro 2008. Huudink, Scolari??

No way.
McClaren was a manager who was shit, but at least he was a manager.
Shearer, great player, but doubt he would do any better.

Although can't see him taking any shit from anyone.

ALthough maybe get Becks as player manager ;)

Paul Ince would be more suitable than Shearer, lets have Paul Ince and Dennis Wise, with Vinny Jones as the motivational speaker.

God no!

This could be a great result for us. It could be a wake up to the morons at the FA that they need a top class boss in charge who then has 3 years to build for the World Cup. Our target should be an all out assualt on that big golden trophy, with a real coach, not more farcical treading water under a complete nobody. I think any manager with any sense will steer well clear though, unless maybe Mourinho fancies more sparring with the press....

how about sheringham as tactical mastermind alongside shearer as man-motivator?

if you're going for heart over head, desperate appointments then this one would get my nod.

and while we're at it, lets get ossie and glen back at Spurs.

No, it would be like Ireland appointing Staunton, hero for his country as a player but no managerial experience and you saw how that turned out.

Fuck no. He's a stupid **** who lacked ambition as a player, has no managerial experience and possibly has no clue whatsoever about coaching a football team.

Though he could teach Crouch how to shove his elbows into defenders' faces and get away with it. :-x
