Well this article is behind a paywall but Paul Joyce seems to be reporting that we have had a bid accepted for this guy?

Anyone have access to The Times?

"Tottenham have also had an £8m bid accepted for Cengiz Under, the 19-year-old striker who plays for..."

Yep. Here's the full details, finally there's more clarity:

'Tottenham have also had an £8 million bid accepted for Cengiz Under, the 19-year-old Turkey striker who plays for Basaksehir.'

Out of curiosity, have we established how his name is pronounced? Is it as it's spelled, "Under", or is he an "Oonder"? "Unter"?

I have no idea.

Still Paul Joyce is a pretty reputable reporter he wouldn't just tack a rumour from Turkey onto his article. Makes me think this is more likely than I thought it was yesterday.

since the window doesn't open for another 10 days I would say it is doubtful we have signed anyone.
The start of "The window" is just a date, it means nothing. The date of importance is when the window closes, but when it starts bears no importance on clubs and players wheeling, dealing and negotiation. That's completely unrelated to this specific player though.

From watching a few highlights vids, his name seems to be pronounced "Chengees Oondah" , but please don't quote me ;)

Presumably he'll be playing in Turkish cup final tomorrow night? Anyone know who covers Turkish football on TV?

Seems like the agent and president are saying no deal done "At Present" which would really lead me to believe there has been an element of negotiations or at least initial contact!

Or they just want the cup final to be finished before any final agreement...

He says that he doesn't want to distract the team as the season isn't over. So we probably have a deal in place but it won't be announced until after the final.

Got a feeling the Turkish cup final will be watched by quite a few Spurs fan then.

Never fails to amaze me how people say this every window. It really doesn't matter when the window opens. We announced Modric in March! He just can't play any competitive games until the window opens. Fortunately our next competitive match isn't until August, so the official opening of the window is moot.

What reason have we to think this? Think he'll stay personally.

Agree. Who would sign Lamela anyway when he hasn't kicked a ball since October. That will be 10 months without competitive football come the start of next season.

And even if someone was to take a chance and make a bid, it would inevitably be a low ball offer that General Levy wouldn't entertain.

Just can't see Lamela leaving this summer.

This is way to left field not to have legs to it. Looks OK in the vid. He will improve Under the Master. Fee is perfect. 19 years old. Looks physically strong. Cannot see a downside.

Or, in fairness, they could be bluffing and hoping other clubs firm up their interest by using this story as bait.

I've never heard of him but if Dortmund are interested, that will do me. They don't get a lot wrong in the transfer market.

Albeit predominantly out wide he reminds me of Coutinho. He's either a very promising youngster or similar to the Polish youngster we were linked with a couple of seasons ago (Linetty?). At £8m especially in today's market it's a risk worth taking.

These are the kind of signings I like. Random kids I've never heard of that look like they have bags of potential. Modric, Bale, Dele, et al.

These are the signings that allow us to compete with the financially doped clubs.

Hope we can get it over the line.
