I think we need two new CB's one of which who can cover a fullback position.
The two I would like are Virgil Van Dijk, he's got everything needed to partner Verthongen & fit Pochettino's system.. Positional sense, Pace, physicality, passing even better than Jan, great in the air & good at organising & being vocal add in the fact he can play right back means we could sell Naughton & keep Fredericks around the squad to develop. At between 7-10ml it's a no brainer for me.
The other would be Kostas Manolas, I'm not the greatest lover of stats & think they can be dependant on the individuals your playing with or against, so can be misleading at times however I found it interesting that up until Greece were knocked out of World Cup he lead the stats all across the board for passing, headed clearances, tackles & blocks & interceptions , now Greece were pretty defensive which probably counts to that fact nonetheless even before I was aware of those stats everytime I have seen him I've been impressed with his leadership qualities he's forever cajoling & organising his defense something we lack & if we signed him he would be Captain material in a season or two.

I'd love it if we had a player called Virgil. Then we could sign a Scott, Alan, Gordon and John and we'd have the Thunderbirds.

And we could change the song that plays when we come out on pitch to:
FIVE...FOUR...THREE...TWO...ONE...THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO!

Sorry, I'm a child

It could replace Duel of Fates. I'd get hyped. Thunderspurs are go.

Dawson and Gary Doherty. High line and short passing play.

Davies and Vlaar would do me as organisers paired with Vertonghen. Possibly Alderweireld for his relationship with Verts too.

One of them's going to have to spend a lot of time on the bench. Is he going to be happy with that? What do we do with Vlad? (Ignoring these persistent hints that he could be off.)

Just as an aside - Anyone listing Howedes as an option is crazy. May as well list anyone if you'll list him.

Love the look of Manolas, watched him play a big big team (Real Madrid or Manchester united can't remember) in the champions league. Bossed it and made me really take notice.

I wish we could afford to buy the Romanian national team captain. Vlad Chiriches. He's that cultured, classy CB playing for Roma in the champions league. Just been voted player of the year in Italy as Roma finished runners up to Juventus and made the semi finals of the CL. Also he was the heart of the Romanian team that impressed so well in Euro 2016 and has just been sold to Barcelona for £45 million.

Ahh... did we not sell someone like that for around £8 million in 2014?

Meant to put Davies or Vlaar...

Do you think that either is better than the Kaboul of 2011-12?

Vlaar may edge Dawson, although I'm still a way from being convinced that he'd be that much of an upgrade; Davies, on what I saw of him last season, is definitely a good deal better—we were strongly linked with him in 2007, and some people thought he would be a better bet than Kaboul.

And it's an upgrade on Kaboul that we need if he isn't going to get back to what he was, or at least someone of the quality we saw from him in 2011-12. Assuming everyone's fit, Dawson will be third choice at best, more likely fourth, so if we decide that it's, 'Thanks, Mikey, but we need to move on' we should be looking at replacing him with a promising youngster, not an established player who is of pretty much the same standard—and I cannot see Vlaar or (God help us!) Shawcross coming to play second fiddle if everything's OK with Younes.

If there was some certainty over Kaboul, and we didn't have these constant suggestions that Vlad might be off, life would be a great deal easier.

Would like to see us go for Virgil van Dijk. I think Veljkovic can provide valuable minutes in the early Cup/Europa League matches which is huge for not putting too many minutes on our starter's legs.

I'd love to see us add another instant starter at CB but the available talent is pretty slim and the ones that are available are going to be priced out of our range at this point.

Is he any relation to Dick? Or Penis van Lesbian? (There's a very convoluted joke there which I'll leave it to all you good folks to reverse engineer, not that it's particularly worth it.)
