Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I would thing that if City or United get 4th and win their playoff, then they would likely be in Pot 2, correct?

If England have 5 teams in the CL it would look like 1 team in Pot 1, 2 teams in Pot 2, and 2 teams in Pot 3?

Man City would definitely be in pot 2. Man Utd would most likely be in pot 3, as will we. If Liverpool qualify they'll be on the fringes of pots 3 and 4.

Not quite happened, but a big step towards it. Munich winning the Champion's League was the only case that totally screwed us, but we still need whoever wins the UCL to finish 2nd or 3rd in their own league ideally (1st is useless, 4th is less helpful but still something, 5 th or below with City is useless unless Liverpool win the Europa and United or Arsenal are 4th)

Well Barca did us a favour today, which means Dynamo Kyiv will not go into pot 1 as Ukrainian champions and either Atletico or Real (both well above us in the coefficients) will take up the last spot instead as CL holders. The last three games of the Portuguese league are tomorrow, Benfica only need to match Sporting's result to be champions.

Havent read through thread, but some twat gooner on my fb has been saying we have to play a CL qualifier for finishing 3rd, didnt think that was the case? He might well be on the wind, but im still too pissed off to think straight.

If anyone can clarify, would appreciate

We go straight into the group stages, mate.

According to UEFA,

• The UEFA Europa League winners will be entered in the UEFA Champions League at a minimum level of the play-offs ...

• ... but as both UEFA Champions League finalists will have already qualified, whoever wins the UEFA Europa League will be elevated into the group stage

Therefore, even if Liverpool wins, there is no effect on our group stage position
So we are in CL group stage safely

Question for Saiorse or anyone who understand this. Reading back we want Liverpool to win to help us with a pot 2 seeding.

Is that still correct or can I now safely hope that the scousers lose the final?

So looking at the post about pot 2, it's still on but not looking great.

Only one completely lost is Serie A. Confirmed are schalke missing out and Barcelona winning la liga.

So we need 5/6 of the rest:-

Benfica 2 points clear with superior GD and one to play.

Zenit 1 point behind in third with one left, but the 2nd placed has a game in hand.

That leaves Sevilla losing the CL final (boooo), and City, Porto and Shaktar losing playoffs. So not bad but still very unlikely.

Found this, good indication of that the pots will be. Basically guaranteed to be pot 3 as only Shahktar can go into pot 2 as 2 out of the 3 remaining positions will have higher coefficient than us. Although obviously this assumes all seeded team go through in the play off which isn't always the case. I think the best we'd need is Porto and Man City to go out in the play off and Liverpool to win the CL for us to get put into pot 2

No matter what pot we're in, we'll still be in the group of death! It's always the way.

Group of death to me looks like, Bayern, Real Madrid and maybe PSV?

If Rostov win the Russian league then the two teams with worst coefficient will both be in pot 1

I'll update in a bit but the chances of us getting pot 2 still aren't good - we'd need some playoff upsets involving at least two of Shakhtar Donetsk, Man City and Porto. The only advantage we are likely to get from Liverpool winning is a) An improvement in the Premier League's overall coefficient, both with the direct points from winning the tournament and from having an extra Champions League team next year - helping secure the 4th Champions League place in future seasons b) Additional fixtures for them making it less likely they will challenge us in the league next year.

I would not complain if we have had a group of death. That's what the Champions League is all about, facing the top teams in Europe. A weak group would be a bit underwhelming. Our youngsters can only benefit from playing the top teams.
