I don't know if there are any other threads already with this theme or if this is the right place for this type of thread, if so, then mods, please feel free to merge this with those.
With all the names being bandied about, I was wondering how realistic it is that we will actually sign someone of say, Villa's 'dimension'? Other names included are Damiao and Soldado amongst others. Something that they all have in common however is...?
Their price tag. Each of them is going to cost a pretty penny. So, with this in mind, I thought it would be fun at the least to discuss cheaper, less well known alternatives.
And so, the first position that we should nominate candidates for is the most pressing: Striker (Centre forward, Attacker, False No:9, reverse defender, whatever.....)
Jonathan Soriano
RedBull Salzburg
Valued at £1.8m on transfermarket.com.uk and having just finished the first year of a three and a half year contract, this 27 y/o Spanish CF has scored goals pretty much all through his career. The exception being when he has been farmed out on loan.
Without the loans included he has career scoring stats of played 237 and scored 123. These figures represent him scoring just slightly more then a goal every other game. A ratio of; 1 : 0.52
His on loan performance is comparably low. His on loan stats read as, played 40 and scored 9. This puts his scoring ratio at about half as much as he has managed when not on loan. A ratio of; 1 : 0.225
On the surface of things he seems like a real goal getter. Someone who when is settled at a club will regularly bang in the goals. Thing is however, not all of his goals have been scored in the top flight. In fact, when he played in the Spanish Primera Liga he went through his most barren spell in front of goal (played 43, scored 3) albeit over a seven year period (the information is unclear over this however). Is this a reflection that he cannot cope at the very top? He has gone to Austria and in Bundesliga he has somewhat redeemed himself with an impressive 29 goals in 41 appearances.
With him coming in to his peak years the opportunity for re-sale is small but not so small that it couldn't be done, it just a case of how well the player would do if he was signed up by a new side.

2012 - Now RedBull Salzburg..Apps 41 Gls 29
He appears to have a good first touch and close control, he is able to score a variety of goals, uses both feet and also shows lightening quick reflexes as can be seen in his clip with him reacting to a missed shot coming at him extremely fast and directing it in to the goal.
