I would rather peak Dawson in my defence than peak Dier - I would prefer peak Dier in my team (in midfield) than peak Dawson.

that is my fancy way of saying Dawson was a better pure centre back, Dier was a better footballer.

both loyal guys

Was with you right up until the last line. We never had the depth. In 2016-17 we had the best first XI in the league by a mile, the best attack, the best defence. We didn’t win the title because we had more injuries than Chelsea, but also they just had better options. I know Poch fucked up picking Sonny at LWB in the semi, but it was 2-2 and they brought on Fabregas, Hazard and Costa. We brought on Kevin Nkoudou

we also had periods of the season where we lost Kane or Kane and Son so Poch does deserve a lot of credit

Dier was a great guy but something about Dawson you have to love, he was a warrior

Dawson more reliable throughout and a pure defender. Dier had a higher peak, but that was more in midfield. Reckon I'll hold them fairly even, but Dier has like Lloris proven how important it is to leave when it's time.

That's a great question. Two similar players in a lot of ways.

I'd go for Dawson because.i just love him, but caveat that with the fact that different pressures are on CBs now days compared to Dawson's day. You're expected to be quick and a ball player now.

Back even 10/15 years ago, in England at least, the core attributes of centre-backs were to stil to be big, brave and love a big tackle.

Dier in Dawson's time... Dier was probably a better player.

Daws for me. Not to be detrimental to Dier, who'd be above many many other ex players

Had to change my vote after reading the question properly!

Dawson was a better defender I reckon. A pure CB. Dier's versatility makes him a better player overall (just) but that wasn't the question so I changed my vote :)

Dawson hands down a better defender.

Dier more versetile, played CDM for us a lot and in a back 3, neither of which would suit Daws imo.

Both great servants.

Alongside his Majesty, Dawson all day long.

Playing in the middle of a three, Dier.

Really Difficult. Dier is more fresh in the mind the good and the bad.

Additionally I felt it was the club that hurt Dier's rep a bit. We have all seen Dier's decline over the past 2-3 years, We should have had enough top CB's that we only needed to use Dier when on form or if injuries happened, its not his fault we had to call upon his services all the time even as his level was dropping.

Both players where good professional's, I really can't chose between them.

Dier for me. He played at a higher level for longer; with better team-mates and against better opposition. He also was the better footballer so was more versatile.

All true but Daws could really ping a ball out to our wingbacks

As a defender I rate Dawson way above Dier. I don't think Dawson could have played midfield like Dier did, but Dawson was a much better defender IMO.

This is what gets me. Dier’s decline was one season (given he barely played this year) - he was brilliant the year before that in conte’s back 3 - we conceded 17 goals in the 25 league games he played under conte that year, and 7 in the 3 he didn’t. He was our best defender (yes, better than Romero).

For some reason, people are judging a guy on that one bad year and talk as if he was rubbish for ages, when let’s face it everyone except Harry and Lolo were terrible last season. Eric Dier played over 30 league games 5 times for us and yes he was bad in 2022/23, the other four times we made the CL. He’s so much better than people give him credit for

Loved them both but has to be Dawson, a true Yid u can see how much he loves the club, he’s like a puppy when he talks about us. And if u ever needed a long diagonal he was you boy.
