Both played a very similar amount of games and scored a similar amount of goals
They also both wore their hearts on their sleeve but the question is who would you pick in defence?

Fun poll, wouldn't feel great with either tbh but i went dier because he had spells where i thought he would hit/had hit a higher level, i never thought that about dawson during his time.

Aaaaah Damn I loved them both... a hard pick.... maybe Dawson marginally but then I'm talking from the heart and not the head.

Daws all day long. A massive presence on the pitch one of the bravest defenders I've seen.

Daws all day long. Specialist centre back. Love the guy. Although I'm very fond of Eric for his sheer commitment. Both 100% players, both top blokes as far as I can tell. And love the club.

Tough to judge. There's 10 years between the two leaving and the game (especially for a CB) has evolved massively. I'm not sure Daws would have made it as far as he did in today's game, nowhere near good enough on the ball. he was a proper defender though, he'd have thrown himself infront of a missile if it was heading goalwards.

Dier gets my vote but that's mainly due to the sides he was part of and the success (minus trophies) we had. I don't know if I'll ever see a spurs side as sturdy as the the one with prime Lloris, Verts, Toby and Dier sitting just infront.

The more I think about it the more I think Poch actually massively underachieved with the players at his disposal.

Early in his career I’d take Eric because he had that batshit crazy element to his game that could intimidate opponents. Later in the career more Daws for dependability.

Dawson gave 100% every match. Old school style defender. Put his body in the way of everything and anything. The only thing that I disliked about him was him hoofing it when he never needed to.

Dier had that continental style of play to his game. Good with his feet, didn't mind a pass or getting forward when he needed to early days. He seemed to do very well when he had decent players around him but could be exposed around crap. Great utility player though

I voted Dawson but Dier had more to his game.

I LOVE both, but I think Daws edges it. Just. Both no doubt gave their all, but I think Dier's form tailed off towards the end. Though it has been a long long time since Daws so I may be misremembering and someone could correct me.

Love both though.

Dawson had short prime but in that he was Vidic minus passing ability. Dier never reached that level but he was in his prime for longer and able to play more positions. Not sure which one was better overall, but Dier has better career.

Both wore the shirt with pride and gave their all. Therefore I will not try to separate or judge them in any other way.

Was with you right up until the last line. We never had the depth. In 2016-17 we had the best first XI in the league by a mile, the best attack, the best defence. We didn’t win the title because we had more injuries than Chelsea, but also they just had better options. I know Poch fucked up picking Sonny at LWB in the semi, but it was 2-2 and they brought on Fabregas, Hazard and Costa. We brought on Kevin Nkoudou

Can't argue with that, we definitely didn't have the squad depth of the teams around us. Even so, I still feel like we could've and probably should've won a trophy. Not having adequate cover was definitely a massive factor but Poch's in game management was also straight up weird at times. I maintain he's a good manager despite his current troubles but he/his coaching team did and still do take too long to make changes.

Dier was a more versatile player, who was able to play in several positions during his time.

Dawson was an out and our Centre Back and better at it.

Dier much better in a 3 and Daws much better in a back four

I reckon there’s a nose in it and I’m still struggling to pick

Heart just about says Daws and head probably just goes with Eric

Love Daws, but an elite team now would pick a peak Dier for their squad all day long. Dawson just wasn’t good enough with the ball, and Dier could play CB, holding midfield and even RB.

Daws always looked so much better with Ledley next to him, I think Dier would have been a much better CB with someone like that too.

Dawson.

In terms of strength and aerial ability there's not much between them. I'd say Dier was certainly the better footballer, being (imo) a far far better defensive midfielder than centre back until his appendicitis. Being able to seamlessly shift between pivot and sweeper in the same match was such a valuable contribution.

But Dawson's positioning, movement, awareness and reactions were superb, and a perfect foil to King's innate genius. He was a wall. Got the fan's player of the season that year we qualified for the CL iirc. Aaaand he's from my hometown, so there :D

Voted with my heart and voted for Dawson. His partnership with King was great and I always thought Dier was a better midfielder than defender, at least to begin with.

Dier was more versatile though and probably the better footballer overall but I will always love Michael Dawson.
