Not sure how old this is, but it's taken from 'Spurs News' on Facebook...

Spurs head of recruitment Paul Mitchell was at Coupe de France final (Marseille 2-4 PSG).

He was watching target Batshuayi who played the full 90 minutes and scored.

Reports in France suggest the deal with the player is done however agreeing the fee with the club is proving more of a challenge.

According to French press the player has said his goodbyes to team mates.

We will update this story as things are confirmed...

Eh? Lamela signed for us in 2013 & Kane never even played a PL game for us until April 2014?
I would also add that I think Lamela was certainly NOT purchased with a view to waltzing straight into the first 11, especially as I have already stated that we don't sign players in that way any more.

Lamela was being touted as a great prospect who had already broken through at Roma. Did we overpay? Of course, that's not Erik's fault. We had a ton of cash with the Bale sale and Everyone knew it.

The point remains that Lamela and Son were purchased with a view of competing, just like everyone else and for Batshuayi it will be the same. I also do not believe he is being viewed as a HK cover option. He will be viewed as someone who can play in a multitude of attacking positions, which may just as easily mean alongside Harry Kane.
Modern football is about being fluid in all departments, that means emphasis on flexibility.

There's are good reasons Dier is going to the Euros for example... yes he has earned it with good performances, but Hodgson knows that he is getting 2 for 1. A DM in good form and a good CB option.

So, will we spend 20m plus on a HK backup option? No.
Will we spend this on Bats, who Poch will believe can play anywhere across the front 4? Yes.
WIll he come? Remains to be seen.

Agree with this point. There is no reason why you couldn't play them together. Harry could even drop into the hole as a number 10 as he used to play for the U21s. Given the style of Tottenhams play it wouldn't restrict his opportunities to score as the team all defends and attacks as one - it may even keep him a little more central as he has a tendency to push wide at times. Also, given the amount of games he has played over the past 2 seasons Poch may be looking at restricting his time next season to prevent risk of injury.

Ah, the old deal is done except agreeing the fee chestnut. So the most difficult aspect still to be done.

Think this one may run for a while yet.

We didn't buy Son to be a back up. We bought him to push Lamela and whoever else for a first team place and provide a quality option. If we buy Batshuayi it won't be as a back up. It will be to push Kane for his place and be a viable rotation option.
Agree completely.

To quote our own manager:

"Players don't sign a contract to play. They sign one to train"

So anyone we pay money for (regardless of the amount) is not a guaranteed starter, but added to the pool of players for Poch to choose from..... In my opinion.....just how it should be too!

Whilst you are right, he doesn't pick the team and there will be times when Poch will want to change things around during games. We do need an adequate alternative.

Also don't remember shearer playing the high press all season so kane needs to be rested whether he likes it or not

Watched a few of highlight videos. Don't rate him at all. Not worth more than 10 mill. Seems absolutely useless outside the box and nothing that special in it. If we have the option we should get Lacrazette. I'd personally be more excited about the Fulham Dembele than this guy, as at least he's young and could improve.

Tell me what's to get excited about in either of these two videos:

It's easy to hypnotized by an exotic name from a foreign league, but I don't see it at all.

I will fully deconstruct your posts when I wake up. Goodnight.

a.I don't think Spurs would have paid 26m odd for Lamela not to be in the starting eleven.
b.Especially with the lack of quality in the squad for 2013/2014.

If Bats can play anywhere across the front 4 then all well and good and goes with what iv'e been saying but iv'e yet to see any stats that say that he can play anywhere other than up top !

Apart from his strength, his pace, his runs, his hold up play, his physical presence, his work rate, his finishing and his age that gives him the potential to improve still further I don't see much there either.

Let's just hope that Paul Mitchell & Co. haven't been watching the same videos. They might have done something as ridiculous as watching a large number of full 90 minute matches!

Two videos? Are you completely stupid? Watch him all season I presume?

Ridiculous opinion.
