How long will the Chelsea torture continue … Since Roman we have lost far too many cup Games to this bunch

Flashes of the 5-1 from 2002 come to mind for this second leg , but we were far more free flowing then and chelsea didn’t have a winning mentality or over powered squad

2 without reply and it goes to extratime(?) with us on the up and or penalties which is anybody’s game. For God’s sake show a bit of positivity ?
Sorry mate but can't see them not scoring at least once again so I'm afraid that yet again our club lets us down in big games standard.

Apologies I couldn’t find the Kane thread , I have been an avid Harry Kane fan for so long , but wow he really has lost not just a yard , but his touch , he his getting pushed off the ball . He remains extremely static and lacks purpose .

The Jose Kane was superb but still had less goals than a prime poch Kane I always felt Kane was better as a goal scorer getting the numbers and shooting on-site

now he is literally end of career Rooney just worse at free kicks . I remember when he said he wanted to win the Ballon ‘dor and play NFL

Kane lives in cuckoo land , absolutely bullied by rudiger tonight and lost every single battle

I can see us out growing him, he out grew us last season but right now he’d be lucky to get in a top side

Chelsea have a better squad than us. We can't afford to have as many key defenders missing as we did
In one sense the fates conspired against us with injuries and illness. But also as has been pointed out they have an owner who has pumped billions into the club to turn them into a football super power
We have owners who have put very little money into the club comparatively speaking, and have slipped way behind a club that for most of my life we outranked.
It's sad for me to contemplate, but it is what it is
Of course spending money in itself is not the answer. It has to be spent well, or has to be spent in such huge amounts that sooner or later you'll get results

It is sad but I think many of us are resigned to the fact that despite what we do the club merely flirts with the big boys and doesn't compete.
We are owned by people with no interest in football other than what financial gain can be made from it.
I can't see Conte sticking around too long after the season ends after all he isn't going to be in a position to challenge so what is the point.

Well said, for me the biggest sliding doors moment in the last hundred years was RA taking over Chelsea and not us. Other way round, we quickly overtake a bankrupt Chelsea and resume our traditional supremacy over them. We almost certainly go on then to become a European super power instead of them
Breaks my heart to think about the might have beens ? But we'll always have 2008 and Jonathan Woodgate ?
Also, I think we might just get one more season out of Conte. But we need to buy well this month and the summer. We also need to get lucky. Of all the times for Dier to fall ill, while Romero was injured. Then a barely played Rodon picks up a knock, while both our LWBs are injured too. It's beyond depressing, truly we are cursed. We are the Job of football clubs,. Which footballing God or Gods did we offend in some far off days or lands?

Some way over the top comments on here, yes it was an awful performance, embarrassing, passed around with ease but if we had nicked a late goal I would have been happy and even at 0-2 we have a chance at home. Both goals were comical and had a fair amount of bad luck but we managed to avoid an absolute thrashing at least.
We lost 2-0 away to the champions of Europe at the end of the day.
I see other teams around us putting young players in and although not all are a success I think we need to do the same for now, surely better options than Doherty/Holberg even current form Kane at the club somewhere?

When I said we should keep Lamela at the expense of Lo Celso I was chastised by most of you. A fit Lamela always turned up in big games. And before you say it, Lo Celso's fitness record is just as bad. This game was crying out for a Lamelaisque performance.

Can’t disagree with this — they were dominating us in the Carabao tie last season until Lamela came on and turned the game.

I do feel everyone is missing the point here. I understand the disappointment and the anger in the way we played against Chelsea=it was crap. The result wasn't too bad 2-0 , this is redeemable. We are a decent side at home and with Dier hopefully returning and the team knowing whats need to be done-I really do feel we can turn this around. Last night (and this is not delusional) They were excellent because of us being so poor in the way we played. We allowed them to dominate-we didn't show up. Chelsea have a lot of the ball but do not create good chances - Lloris never had a save to make. They are beatable but you need to get your game together and create and take your chances because they do not create that many.

It was more a case of us being crap than them being excellent.

I think the biggest surprise to me is how so many were expecting any different.

Chelsea are European champions, genuine title contenders and likely to finish at least 3rd. To a man their squad is superior to ours.

Hate to say it but last night was a clear reminder to some about how far we've regressed.

Doesn't matter who our coach is, this is where we are now.

Very true but as a club we have to stop keep bemoaning our luck because we are missing player A or B.
We also have to stop keep saying well we were playing the champions of Europe so what do we expect.
This level of second best acceptance from the fanbase and the club hierarchy.

Getting outplayed, opened up and beaten is fair enough. Its the total capitulation (again) that's hard to take.
I mean Tanganga has single handedly knocked us out with 2 schoolboy brain farts.
Doesn't matter how good the squad is if some donut is gonna bottle it, let the occasion get to him and fail to do even the basics right.
It was always a tough task and with 2 of your best back 3 missing it doesn't help, however I think we should expect our playesr to be a bit better than a Sunday pub team. If a centrrback for The Kings Head had a game same as Tangangas he'd be on the bloody bench next weekend.
We'd have been better off starting with 10 men.
I honestly cannot remember seeing any other top flight team fail in the manner we do.

Beaten by a better team, no complaints really, Chelsea played well and if they weren’t awful in front of goal this tie would have been over.

Pretty pants peformance and we looked beaten before we kicked off, we do need to come into these games thinking we can win. Second leg to come at home tho, I rekon we can win this.

They're European champions but they're not playing very well at the moment but completely dominated us. I think we got off light under the circumstances but we gave them space to play and pass around us for 90 minutes. I'd have liked us to start with 3 in CM under the circumstances, be that 343 or 352 because Sonny really isn't contributing anything much right now and looks like he desperately needs a rest. Skipp and Hojbjerg couldn't get near them in the middle and we needed that in the away leg.

Think if we had been adding an odd “ right player “ and selling or loaning out wrong, stale or not good enough players every window to keep the squad fresh over the last 4 years we wouldn’t be far behind . Our squad In 2016/17 was top notch but since that point recruitment has been poor. Either not decisive or getting stop gaps to fill a position. That’s took us back many steps.
