Chaps and Chapesses,

Just want to get your opinions on Mr Chimbonda this season.

I have openly never really been a fan of his or his attitude.

When Stalteri was at fault for 2 or 3 goals over a whole season, he was battered on here and by Spurs fans in general.
In my opinion, Chimbonda has been at fault for at least 6 goals from memory yet seems to avoid the wrath of the fans...

For me, he should be our first player sold.

anyone agree?

I think after last night he's made up Ramos' mind if it wasn't already.

Chimbo's a great athelete which has gotten him out of trouble alot in the past but regardless of whether he's playing left or right back the two attempts to tackle Cole were gash

He has been moved about a lot since Ramos has taken charge and hasnt really found his feet under him. He has played well at left back and is obviously our second best full back after Hutton (Due to present injuries)

I think he has found it hard playing centre back and left back as neither of these are his position but he has done well considering.

Offers alot going forward - wins headers, gets crosses in consistently.

BIG PROBLEM - lack of discipline and positional sense defending.

He has the physical qualities required to suceed as a full back. He has potential. There aren't alot of full backs out there who could offer this much in attack. No sale i say.

Ramos probably does. I think his opinion is the same as most of ours. Could be a great player, if he wasn't such a despicable person. Ok, sometimes this doesn't affect a players performance but with Chimbonda it does. Poor attitude, thinks he is miles better than he is, etc.

What exactly does he offer in attack? His crossing is shocking!

And his primary role is to defend, something he is incapable of lately.

On his day he's fantastic. But his days don't come about very often. He seems to struggle to concentrate and apply himself for 90 minutes, so there are frequent lapses of concentration. To be honest, his whole attitude seems to say that he doesn't want to be there. I don't think any of the top 4 would have him, but I reckon the likes of Pompey, Villa and Newcastle would all take him for the right price.

But he has been at fault for more goals than Stalteri yet we wanted him gone asap.

A defenders primary job is to defend. He is just not good enough at that. Positional sense is awful, gets caught ball watching at set-pieces.

Have to say I think he has given it his best at LB, but that falls short of what we need..

He was caught out for 3 of their 4 goals last night. I'm not actually surprised by the reluctance to accept it from some people but as I have said for two years now, he is shite, he costs us goals, he should be gotten rid of.

I think he will be sold because his attitude stinks. For someone that was playing in the frnech second division about 3 years ago you would think he would put things in perspective, but he seems determined to go wherever he can earn the most money, which is his choice.

I think Hutton was brought in because Chimbonda is not good enough defensively, and doesnt look to overlap.

Players are going to make mistakes, and defenders/goalkeepers mistakes are going to be more costly than a strikers, but I feel that that Pascal has been at fault for some goals and, like a lot of our players (too many some would say) they are either hot or cold.

I say ship him out. Agree with many of the points above:
- Attitude sucks (although we knew he was a mercenary)
- Positional sense is woeful

Yes, he's an athlete and good in the air but if you're not in the right place on the pitch, you're not going to be a success under Ramos.

I think the decision was made in January, just not enough time to ship Chimbo out when Hutton was finally signed. Next year we have Gilbo and Bale at LB and Hutton and Gunter at RB. No room at the inn for Chimbo. If we get £4M I'll be perfectly content.

When he first arrived at Spurs he seemed a really good player and one far better than is showing now. The good form only lasted for about half of his first season and now he is just a weak link in our defensive line.

Time for change.

I dislike him strongly, never taken to him and never thought we should have bought him, although i got battered for saying that when we signed him - probably by the same people how now want him to go.

He is a decent player, he is just a liability in defense and i am convinced we have shipped so many goals because of him.

Hutton is a class above, and i cant wait for bale to come back our defense will be class.

Sell chimbonda now, he is a good player and we should get about 6 or 7 mill for him.

I thought he was good in his first season and was definitely an improvement on what we had at the time. But his form has dipped at the same time as we have bought some really top drawer defenders, so he looks even more rubbish. Making a mistake when you're next to Dawson and Kaboul is one thing, when you're next to Woodgate and King it really shows up.

Hutton was clearly bought to replace Chimbo at RB, and we got snippets of ITK saying that Chimbo's attitude in training was highly unprofessional. I have very little doubt that Chimbo will be sold in June.

But.... Ramos clearly thinks Chimbo is the second best FB at the club, because he insists on picking him at LB ahead of YP Lee. Indeed, Don Juande's opinion of Lee seems to be so low that he would rather pick Tainio or O'Hara out of position at LB rather than Yip.

Generally, Chimbo is a very sound FB defensively, with his major weakness being losses of concentration. Last night showed how he can be exploited on his weaker foot at LB (the first time it's really happened since he was switched there).

I don't think Joe Cole would have gone past Chimbo as easily at RB for the third goal: I suspect Chimbo would have been better balanced to make a right-footed challenge. And the fourth Chavski goal occurred mainly because Joe Cole miscontrolled the ball. And his poor first touch took the ball to an area that Chimbo wasn't expecting, and that Cole was able to get to first. That was bad luck, not bad play - although Chimbo was arguably a tad too tight.

The bigger issue is that Gilberto was presumably bought in January to be our LB for the rest of the season. And he's so far only managed to play about 70 minutes of first team football. Tottenham's Curse of the Left Back continues...

If we were to apply all your reasons for getting rid of Chimbonda to the rest of the squad it would be severely depleted.

He isnt any better or worse in terms of mistakes leading to goals being conceded, and unlike some of other members, he does give goal assists, PSV Einhoven anyone?

I dont see anyone going on about Berbatov and Keanes attitude which at times stinks!

Yes there are better fullbacks out there, yes he may be all of the above, but firstly he is a Spurs player, so until and if he goes, it would be nice to get behind the player once in a while.

To answer the Poster's question, Stalteri cost us crucial and demtrimental goals even when clearing or blocking were in his favour ie he had the ball!

Chimbonda will go at the end of the season. Ramos liked him before he took over as manager. he was linked to a move to seville last summer i thought, so ramos must have fancied him?
