It actually pains me that we persist with the likes of Lennon whilst this guy is playing for the u21's.

TBH Lennon would be Lionel Messi at U21 level. Let's see if Ceballos can have actual impact on professional level. Though that depends if there is a team that wants to take him on loan at decent level for this season.

I'm not totally sure of that. I think in theory we would all say Townsend would have double what Lennon has, yet in practice we found that to indeed be false.

Bottom line for me is Lennon's defensive work and team play beat out the small extra output production-wise Ceballos may have over Lennon.

Defensive work is great if you're playing a 4-4-2, but as Lennon's going to be playing in a 3 behind the striker it's really not that important. We can't carry one attacking midfielder who doesn't score or assist when we're only playing one striker. All 3 of them need to be getting near or above 10 goals a season.

He was hardly scoring or giving assists at special rate on Portuguese league last season though.

He was playing for a pretty shite team though. He looks to me like the sort of intelligent player who excels playing alongside others on the same wavelength.

Ceballos alongside Lamela and Eriksen and he'd easily surpass Lennons output imo.

This thread isn't about Lennon so I won't post anymore about him on this thread after this one. But your logic above is flawed. It is true that an above average player can be in a successful team in the short term and win things. Cleverley is a decent little player. Not amazing, but not bad either. He isn't a very fashionable player (most English players aren't) so therefore is undervalued by fans, especially non Man Utd fans. But there is a fundamental difference between Cleverley and Lennon. Lennon has been a first team regular in a Spurs side for almost a decade. A Spurs side that is regularly (that is the key word both in terms of club performance and Lennon featuring in the side) top six. Yes average players may last a season or two in a successful side. But to be a regular, especially when so many players have come and gone, like Lennon has shows that he isn't as poor as many are making out. Lennon is a good little winger who, when featured in a 4-4-2, can be very effective. Is he limited? Yes. Is he good enough to be a first teamer in a side that will finish between 4th to 7th? Yes.
i see your argument, and raise you john o'shea and wes brown.

Great ball by Veljkovic, have seen him do that with his left peg too, to the same player no less.

Not on the bench tonight so I assume he's just waiting to be loaned?

I hope he doesnt get loaned out. I was impressed with his display in pre-season.

When he plays, he gets the team doing something I haven't seen the team do in years and that's 1 touch football.

Some of the link up play with
Lamela and bobby was brilliant.

Will be a useful player to have come the festive period.

He wasn't registered for the games. And people you're dreaming if you think an unproven Ceballos is getting in the squad ahead of England international Townsend. Just isn't going to happen.

Think he'll be off on loan to the championship - he hasn't played very much football in England since he joined us. Brighton could be a good one as I think they have a bit of a Spanish influence down there. Or did anyway.

They still do with Bruno, Inigo Calderon and new purchase Adrian Colunga. However they've already brought in 12 new players and don't know wether he would suit their christmas tree.

I actually think he would do well at Hull. With snodgrass being out for 6 months, doubts about Aluko/Brady's fitness levels and the fact that they will probably sign Abel Hernandez, who is a spanish speaker and would probably need someone who speaks spanish around him to help him adjust, Ceballos would be a good fit for Hull.
