An increase to £60k would, in my opinion, be laughable!! This kid has come in and worked his socks off. Yes his form has diipped at times, but he's a very slight lad in a very physical league. However, whilst he's done all he can to improve at THFC, and make no mistake, he has improved, he's also been witness to the likes of Adebayor showing absolutely no respect to 2 of the 3 managers that we've had since Eriksen signed for us, but still be earning anywhere between £175k p/w and £200k p/w, depending upon which source you read.

I'll be honest, if I was Eriksen, and I'd seen such a disrepsectful & unprofessional person collecting £175k per week, yet I've been working my socks off to get better and be part of the team, I'd take that £60k wage offer and wipe my LilyWhite arse with it!!

We should be building our side around a talent like Eriksen, bringing in or using players that will compliment his natural game, and allow him the freedom to express himself freely on the pitch.

Look at the money we're literally spunking away on midfielders alone... Stambouli, Capoue, Paulinho, Bentaleb, Eriksen, Mason, Ceballos, Eriksen, Lennon, Townsend, Lamela, Chadli, Dembele....

That's THIRTEEN midfielders we've got on the payroll, and I've not included Holtby (who Poch has admitted would've got lots of game time had he stayed). We do NOT need 13 bloody midfielders, 14 if we include Holtby. We really NEED to do all we can to shift some out, even if it means losing a few quid on what we paid for them. After-all, each midfielder will be earning a minimum of £2mil p/a, and that, over a period of time, will amount to much more than what we could lose in transfer fees. Weed a few out & then use the money saved on wages to give a better salary to those who are deserving of it.

Who could go? Well I really don't see Paulinho as being one for what Poch wants, and I'm not too sure he's sold on Townsend, Lennon and Dembele. Who knows anything about Ceballos? It wouldn't surprise me if Pochettino would happily lose Dembele, Paulinho, Capoue, Lennon and Townsend. He certainly doesn't appear to have them as first names on his team-sheet. Why would he? Mason and Bentaleb have acquitted themselves excellently, Stambouli just seems full of hunger and desire every time he's been called upon, so that's 3 players for the 2 deep-lying role, which is good because it should see all of them getting enough time on the pitch to keep them happy.

I'm still somewhat baffled as to what Dembele brings to the party? I was shocked when I recently read that Les Ferdinand admitted they (he and Sherwood) continually told Dembele that he could easily follow Bale to Real Madrid. Sorry but I just don't see it, unless they meant he could carry Bales kit bag for him! Seriously, what is it he does for us? YES he's unbelievably strong & almost impossible to knock off the ball (I do LOVE watching players bounce off him), but what does he do with that ball? From what I've seen, he either runs into 5 players and loses it, or he passes it to an opponent, even if his own team-mate is only 3 yards away.

I hate bashing our own players, I really do. But when it comes to the future of our club, the club that we love & have spent a lifetime investing money & love into, I just want what is best for our club both now & in the future. It's no secret that Pochettino is very excited by the youngsters we have at THFC, and that's why I wouldn't complain if some of the so called 'superstars' were weeded out & left us with a more refined & hungry squad. There's no place for sentiment in football, but there are certain players that we simply MUST keep. Those are the important ones to me!!

Apologies for the essay

Hi coopsie sorry it has taken so long to reply it was a long read, I can't really argue with most of what you have said. Except to say how the f*****g hell did we end up with 14 midfielders? I know, we brought them.!!!! I like Eriksen, could he become our Modric? I think we ought to put him on a Macdonalds diet!. Anyway, haven't heard from you for a little while. How are you? Well I hope.

Gonna second this. This place is bit better with some coopsie up in it.

As for Eriksen, I don't think he should or needs to become our Modric. Modric had a VdV, and he a Modric. What Eriksen needs is a supplier in the form of his own Modric in behind to open things up for him more.

Thank you, that's really kind of you both. No need for any long spiel. I was ill, very ill & was vomiting and passing blood from any orifice it would come from. Finally got talked into going to the docs by my wife, ended being rushed into hospital & took 3 days to stop the bleeding etc. Since coming out I have had a camera shoved where it shouldn't go, and they found some polyps in my bowel. Those Polyps were removed and sent away for biopsy. I got the results 2 days ago & they're not cancerous, I've got something called Diverticulitis. It hurts but I ain't dead!!

Back to what's important, ie the topic at the top of the page. @Blackrat1299 and @DaSpurs , I have no idea how we accumulated so many midfielders, but it's a bloody disgrace & we MUST weed some out. I don't care who, It's controversial but for all I care it could be Paulinho, Ceballos, Townsend, Lennon and Dembele, for all I care. Apart from Lennon being able to do Walker's defending for him, I really don't see what any of them bring to the party. Mason and Bentaleb have looked solid enough, in my opinion, and Stambouli has looked hungry & up for the fight whenever he's taken to the pitch. We have other talented youngsters on our books, who I'm sure Poch would sooner work with than some of the guys who I've listed, who are surely being overlooked for a reason?

I think Eriksen, Chadli and Lamela take care of the attacking midfielders we need, Whilst Mason, Bentaleb and Stambouli afe enough for the 2 that play the deep-lying role. Add the likes of Pritchard, Mason and Veljkovic as alternative backups sees us more than sorted in midfield. WHY waste tens of millions in salaries on Capoue, Dembele, Paulinho, Townsend and Lennon, when these kids are probably hungrier for a spot, and will obviously take a considerably smaller wage?

I think, in Lloris, Vertonghen, Fazio, Bentaleb, Mason, Eriksen & Kane, we have something rather promising, maybe even special, to build around. That's just my opinion, I'm not wanting to step on any toes, I just think we're bloated & paying far too much in salaries for players who are providing very little. This can't continue if we ever want to be serious about actually advancing as a club, so if we have to wield the axe, so be it!!

EDIT: Apologies if you respond & it seems like I'm ignoring you. It's time to take my meds, and you REALLY don't want me on here when they start to do their thing. Thanks again for your kind words (y) COYS

Cheers man, diverticulitis is not a fun one. My props to you in dealing with that, and I hope it's of the kind that can be resolved relatively quickly.

I agree, the expense we've laid out on these midfielders who have offered very little is very daunting. It's no coincidence they're so similar, so physical, and we've been so poor at transitioning to attack every since our midfield overhaul of 2012, even despite all the purchases since then. And I agree, unless we bring in something entirely different, I want to see nothing but departures this January and next summer. We could sell any two of Dembele, Paulinho, and Capoue at this point, and lose very little IMO.

Thanks @DaSpurs and @Blackrat1299 .. I'm far too stubborn for anything like that to get the better of me :D.. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute on here more again, there are one or two of you that are actually ok

My wife had a v bad episode of Diverti about 5 years back - no recurrence since. If you start to feel s*** get around to the docs, antibiotics deal with any flare-ups pretty well, at least it has for her when she starts to feel a bit poorly. Be sensible around your diet though, mate, as Br1299 said. All the best, bruv (y)

Guys,

I know I'm following up by quoting my own post but the diet IS important, as is getting to the docs if you feel poorly. My wife was this <> close** to having a op to remove the damaged piece of her intestine: damaged bit removed, temp join, colostomy bag for solid waste (I know, ffftmi), then perm join again - all this over 12 month+ time period. She wouldn't have been able to work over all that period. There is a good website 'End Diverticulitis Now' - I'll track it down and add when I get a mo....

**she actually started to feel ill whilst she was on a private business trip to the US - no doubt the insurance would have been invalidated due to pre-existing condition, so I was probably quite close to being bankrupted if she fell properly ill over there....

We should play Eriksen behind someone like Benteke who can play upfront on his own.

Kane can be a sub to take the pressure off of him.

Add either Kono or J.Rodriguez for the left wing spot, schierderlin for cm and a CB (Moreno or Shawcross) and we'd have a far better balanced team.

Sell the likes of Paulinho, Soldado, Capoue, etc to raise funds.
Benteke should be the primary target. The boy has everything. He's a centre back's nightmare.

Strong, quick, aerially excellent, intelligent and possesses good technical ability. Chuck £25-30m at Villa because he's worth it imo. It's clear he needs better players around him.

Depends where in the US. Before Obamacare was even enacted, some states had gottten rid of pre existing conditions years ago, like New York. And I am pretty sure all emergencies have always been covered by insurance carriers. Where you really got bit in the ass was with maximums, which have now been done away with under the new law, thankfully. The new law has done some good things despite being a piece of shit 1600+ page law thrown together in 5 minutes. Being in the industry and in my family business that been in it for 50+ years, i can tell you how the law really affected people.

Anyway, hope all is well with all you guys and your families. Diverti does NOT seem fun.

Back to the thread, I got scared seeing the tite on this sub forum. He's inexpendable. Our best playmaker. Would be stupid to even think about selling him right now.

Agree with this and think Cabaye is perfect to be honest! I dream of a midfield partnership with Cabaye in and possibly Scniederlin if not but Cabaye is more of a playmaker!

Hey man I almost bit the dust as my diverticulitis perforated at 2 places. Ended up having about 14 inches of my large intestine removed; they called that surgery sigmoid resection. That was 10 1/2 years ago.

Take care from now on and remember to drink plenty of water and take a lot of fibrous food to help bowel movement.

An interesting assessment I must say but I am not sure you can compare Eriksen to the likes of Stambouli, Bentaleb and Capoue as their positions are different, Adebayor has had is wages reduced as we always paid him 100K a week it was Man City who topped it up for two years. If you get Adebayor to play to his full level as Sherwood did then he probably being paid correctly but I agree he is not reliable and would sell him... Dembele is definitely a talent and I think he should be playing further up the pitch I noticed when he came on against Man U for Chadli how his strength and dribbling gave them problems.. Lennon I think is a great squad player and versatile.. Townsend probably needs a new challenge and if QPR offer £12 million and a decent sell on fee I think we should take it... I think we should sell Capoue as he does not have the athletic ability and energy for our team... Eriksen has definately been a good signing but he can still improve and I noticed he has become more consistent since the Danish national manager told him to up his game in no uncertain terms.. At the time I think he was totally correct to do so..
Paulinho 100% needs to be sold and Lamela needs to be given more time as he shows signs of improvement. So for me I would sell 3 and bring in 2 in midfield I am counting Holtby as already gone!!

I think we do need about 12-14 midfield/wide players to cover all the cups injuries loss of form and formation flexibility
