Honestly can't wait for the next time he's at WHL as a pre-game/half-time guest, or if miracles really do happen as an opponent.

The noise is going to be deafening. Makes me emotional thinking about it.

Especially since he just moved. I would assume a medical would really go in depth. If it doesn't it really should.

But maybe some conditions are impossible to detect in advance.
I know over here it's taken very seriously now, and there are widespread trials of genetic screening to try and pick up a mutation they suspect is responsible for players of West African descent being so overrepresented in cardiac events. But sadly there's nothing we can do to predict every susceptibility in advance. Unlike a heart attack, cardiac arrest is caused by an electrical disturbance which is more likely with intense exercise leading to irregular/overly fast heartbeats, but apart from that can be (as far as we know) random.

Adult Sudden Death Syndrome (umbrella term) can be caused by many things. Arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) being one, others include virus of the sac surrounding the heart or in my Patrick’s case a blood clot to the electrical part of the heart (suspected). It’s very hard to pin down in a lot of cases, even with a post-mortem.
Saoirse is right, it urgently needs research!

My best mate passed away in his sleep over 30 years ago from what is now described as ASDS. Back then they said it was an airborne virus!!!

Unfortunately there's not really a way to completely prevent or predict this type of thing occuring. Best you can hope for is it doesn't happen to you or anyone you know.

It's pretty horrific to think any one of us can drop dead at ay minute, but that's life. We are bags of meat, living on a floating rock in space.

I am one of those people who is scared of intense exercise, and this type of thing does nothing to allay my fears unfortunately.

Wow, just heard the news. (was touring on the bike)
Such a terrible time for him and his family.
Really hope he makes a complete recovery.
(Friend of mine also died of ASDS many years ago, sitting by the pool. )

Very interesting.
I am opposite, I have put my body through an Ironman etc, I lived it and loved it. Christian loves playing so we must live our lives to the fullest. Great news that Eriksen is stable this morning.

Something hit me this morning. For the wrestling fans among us it reminded me of Jerry Lawler live on a Monday night RAW. Thankfully it wasn't on camera as they were pointed to the ring (if I remember correctly) and he pulled through as well.

Yeah I know it's something I must overcome. I do weights in the gym, and go 6 times a week, but when it comes to cardio I'm a wimp haha.

I'm very much a man that believes in science and nature as opposed to religion and a greater being so I was annoyed that the first thing I did yesterday was appeal to God to save Eriksen. Is it just early childhood indoctrination that makes you do that? Medical science, basic life support and advanced life support saved him, nothing else or supernatural, and I know that. What a weird day.

Medicine & medical technology are modern marvels. Simon Kjaer is an absolute hero. Anthony Taylor as well with his swift recognition. They all combined to save a life while the world watched. Glad to hear he is continuing to improve. Best we can ask for. Mountain to climb but I hope Denmark wins the tournament for him.

Hope the club offers its assistance & I hope he can make it to the stadium next season, if he’s done. Would love to hear his name being sung again in the stadium while he looks on. I’d also ask Stevie to choose a new number & retire 23.
