You clearly weren’t watching the games then. He was woefully out of form in that last period of the club. You can’t just rely on stats, he did score a few goals but they masked his performances. I remember the games clearly, he was awful and many fans wanted him to leave.

Obviously our midfield has regressed since Eriksen at his peak but that was years ago.
I think it's worth questioning why he was out of form for much of that period. There were many reports that he was expecting one of the Spanish mega clubs to come in for him and was disheartened at Levy's intransigence and the lack of any big offers. It looked like he'd lost some of his passion and drive in that final year and I wouldn't be surprised if that was in part behind his loss of form.

Then in the final 6 months he was a bit part player at best under Jose.

No idea what he'd be like now, but I think that context is important when judging him in 18/19.

He won't be the same player he once was. But in the squad and at current he'd be welcome as an option. Even from the bench. We lack his control and passing.

I just don’t think I could enjoy watching him out there for us, or anyone else for that matter, following the scenes at the Euros. It would always be at the back of my mind I’m afraid, no matter all the medical clearance and technology etc

I think you, like the rest of us, would forget after a couple of games without incident.

Daley blind plays for Ajax with one fitted after an incident in 2020. Same implant and still plays for the National Team so shows that you can continue to play at a high level safely. Is it the right signing, who knows but I would be happy to have him in the squad, I'm sure he can contribute more with a heart condition than our current crop of 'creative' midfielders ever had, though I wouldn't count on him not hitting the first man on every corner!
AFAIK it's slightly different with Blind, isn't his issue cause by a condition (myocarditis maybe? can't remember), whereas there hasn't been any such diagnosis for CE as yet that I can recall being mentioned.

If what happened to CE was a random thing and didn't cause any lasting damage - something the ICD will prevent in future and he's had the all clear from all concerned, I don't see the issue.

(1) To those questioning whether he could handle the PL after his ordeal or say they’d not like watching him out of fear, I say: Your view is pointless because we know next to nothing about his situation. I’m sure he knows what’s best for himself and certainly knows it better than us.
(2) For those questioning his ability to play for us, I say: Stop having opinions about football because you’re embarrassingly wrong. The guy was phenomenal for us. More assists and long range goals than anyone else in the PL during his time with us. He also became an integral part of Conte’s system towards the end. He adapted. So we’d be getting an attacking player who knows how to play for Conte.

now, whether Conte thinks he’s right for us is an entirely different question. Beyond Eriksen, Conte’s view is really the only one that matters here.

maybe a pay if you play contract until the end of the season? Allows Eriksen to train and gives us option if it works.

The issue is people putting their own anxiety caused by a lack of knowledge/information about what happened and the ramifications ahead of medical experts who probably are some of the very best in the world given Eriksen's career and stature saying he is medically cleared to play.

You articulated the first point way better than I did

One can't merely rely on watching a match to make an impression of a player, a take made from simply watching a match is entirely subjective, clouded in biases and therefore pretty worthless on its own.

Without stats (data) to back up ones opinions (feelings) about a player are pretty much irrelevant.

If Conte wants him and the medical staff clear it this is a no brainer. I do wonder how his overall fitness levels will be though because I don't know how much training he's been able to do.

6 months when he new he was off 18 months is a huge exaggeration.

It is worth remembering that:

(a) Most the team were very poor. The last 6 months of Poch was dire, and the players did not improve under Mourinho (other than Kane and Son).

(b)Eriksen was open that he wanted a new challenge but had to wait around for a year as no-one would pay what Levy thought he was worth that summer. And, however professional a player is, once their head is out of the door performance will dip by 3 or 4%. It is why clubs usually sell players when they want out. We've seen a similar thing with Kane this season, and as professional as he is, his form has been woeful.

Eriksen's performances weren't that bad his final six months. He wasn't as good as he was, but he was still better that most of our attacking players at the time. It's just that everyone knew he wasn't going to stay, so an average performance was seen as him being terrible and not interested, and anything good he did was overlooked.

Really? We seemed to manage fine for decades upon decades without stats, just having scouts watching players. They may well add something now to the decision making, but watching a player will always be far and away the most important factor in knowing if a player is of the required quality or not.

Good scouting is also about watching players when they aren't playing well. It's a good judge of character, in terms of how they work in adversity.

I’d be happy with Eriksen training with us while he gets back to fitness, if he can. I wish him all the best. But I don’t want him back as a player for us. The last 18 months he was here were awful. He’s 30 in February, and I can’t see what he would bring to the team now free kicks aside.
