If conte really wanted him we'd move heaven and earth to make it happen which we clearly aren't doing.

Personally I'm completely fine with it. So far we have no reason not to trust conte and paraticis judgement. They either have a better alternative option or conte feels he has good enough options when factoring in the other players that are joining which will increase creativity against the low blockers

There have been loads of articles with an iteration of the line ‘Spurs are confident of signing Eriksen’ though. There was never any major exclusive though as I guess he hasn’t made his decision yet.

Sounds like we are briefing that we are out of the running, most likely because United are willing to pay silly fees and I’m not sure how convinced Conte is on Eriksen in his system.

Sounds like Ten Hag has thrown a wobbly and demanded De Jong and Eriksen so it's possible they've offered him Pogba's wages and a decent signing on fee.

The essential thing is interesting though. I wonder if he wants Eriksen as De Jongs backup as they have no other deep lying playmaker options there, and it's key to his system. Were they to play De Jong, Eriksen and VDB/Bruno as a midfield 3 that would be seriously lightweight in the PL.

Exactly my thoughts, very much sounds like the kinda thing we would do if we found out he wasn’t coming.

The only thing I find strange is that there seemed to be a similar distancing from Utd sources at the back end of last week.

I guess Ten Hag may have insisted they re-negotiate over the weekend.

That is a massive change from your previous info. Must be dead then.

Gutting as I think this deal was a key to this being an A+ window. No way we have the budget to buy an alternative without cutting our cloth elsewhere. I suspect we just won't end up with an alternative.

We still have money to make from Lo Celso, Ndombele, Bergwijn, Winks and a selection of other fringe players who may be shown the door like Rodon and Sanchez. Plus the money allocated to transfers that we haven't yet spent. Of course it depends on other business but still think there's potential to get someone for a similar role. I don't think there's enough craft in our midfield currently so really hope we can stretch the budget to compensate for that. I know Conte's teams don't rely on it, but I think it will prove to be important to have the option.

I'm not his greatest fan and many will probably disagree which I completely understand but if certain other targets are deemed too expensive for our budget then Tielemans for £25m wouldn't be the worst piece of business IMO. Creative, PL proven, still young at 25 so room for improvement and a good price if that reported figure is accurate.

It's ridiculous isn't it. I'm sure the club briefs Ally but he'll always get info from the other side to corroborate things.

It's quite a reach to think the club would release to Ally all of the clubs interested in Eriksen and his supposed U-turn in staying in London. That's obviously come from Eriksen's agent, whilst the distancing stuff has come from the club.

Either the negotiations have fallen through (he's gone elsewhere) or they have taken the negotiations public with the agent pushing for more money from us.

Yeah it definitely feels like something is up and it is one of those teo. I suspect we will find out where he is going very soon though now. Although it does feel like this is us distancing ourselves from him, but who knows.

Don’t know why everyone is panicking … sounds to me like his agent angling for a better deal for his client and not restricting him to london clubs … doesn’t rule us out

I think the idea of Eriksen was that he could play deep but also in the front 3 (or #10 in a 3-5-2) so would get more games that way. I don't think Tielemans is anywhere near as versatile.

As for budget I've got the impression in recent weeks that it's tighter than initially suggested, despite the cash injection (Romero does likely play into this after all) That suggests there wouldn't be the wiggle room you'd need to replace a free transfer we were counting on with a Paqueta or similar for big money.

If Schoots wants to get information out I'm sure he'd be happy to brief a journalist just as much as the club would. It's really not rocket science.

Sure, but why would that be Ally Gold out of all the journalists the agent could leak to? And what is in it for the agent to leak that? You think the agent is doing it for some purpose of negotiation. I think it's quite simple, the club have briefed AG because the club have got wind that he's going elsewhere. It's the most obvious and logical conclusion. It might not be the news we want to hear, but all fingers point to this one being dead in the water..

Despite my profile pic, I haven't been fully convinced it would be a good idea to bring him in again. Always felt like a nice-to-have signing rather than a must-have. I think Conte and Paraciti will have targets that are better suited for the team, but Eriksen "on a free" was too good to pass up, until the free part was scratched by United bidding him up.

If he gets a payday and becomes a central part of a Man Udt team with Ten Hags support, good for him (and my national team). Won't change United being challenged - he isn't exactly a player that can single-handedly win games.

It's not hard for a journalist to get an agents phone number. Usually they'd get a 'no comment' but if an agent had something to brief the media with they might give them a juicy nugget.

You really think Spurs went out of their way to brief Ally with a laundry list of clubs that made offers to Eriksen?

Edit - It is entirely possible he has decided to go elsewhere but I'm certain all of this info hasn't come from the club.

While Eriksen surely will be respectful of Conte, I dont think they have any bonds apart from the professional one. Meanwhile, Eriksen and Ten Haag seems to be very close to each other. With Van Gaal giving warning to basically every Dutch player that not playing regularly will cause them to not being picked for the WC squad (eg. van De Beek), Eriksen might be the only one left in Ten Haag's close contacts list.

Very disappointing. Hope he goes abroad. So much for a fairytale if he goes to united for 500k a week

Don't think they really know each other very closely, Ten Haag certainly wasn't at Ajax when Eriksen was.

Yeah that's a fair point if that was indeed the intention. We certainly haven't been linked with the staple central midfield figure that Tielemans probably is, more so the flexible forward type like Paqueta.

It's really hard to know with the money available. As in whether we're penny pinching in certain areas to go really big in another or if we're just generally a bit tighter. We'll see. Either way it's far too early to feel concerned, will be interesting to see where we go from here if this Eriksen news is indeed new to those involved too.
