I honestly think this deal has a massive effect on our forward hunt. Get Eriksen and we’ll pull the trigger on more expensive forward options

I honestly think it's just that he's gone on holiday and said he'd make a decision at end and the football media abuses anxiety like no other entity on earth.

Yeah I think he's gone on holiday and asked his agent to get all of the offers ready for him to decide on when he returns. The agent is probably trying to get both us and Brentford to up our offers by leaking all this conflicting information. Spurs distancing themselves is probably us kicking back against this.

Yeah kind of feel like it's not even worth speculating on this one anymore. I might just try my best to ignore all Eriksen related news and just let it play out, since there is so much conflicting noise and information on him. In the past 2 weeks we've heard:

1) He's categorically turned down Brentford yet is still considering them
2) He wants to stay in London but moving away is also no longer a concern
3) Spurs are favourites yet we've had no contact for 2 weeks and are distancing ourselves
4) He's nearing a move to United but prefers a move to Spurs or Brentford

It's just a total headfuck.
5. He would like to play CL football but it’s not that important

I've always said that it seems that Eriksen's agent has a lot of weight in any decisions he makes, I can't help but feel he is playing some games at the moment to either get clubs to increase their offers, wake up some of those who are yet to table an offer or a bit of both. I don't for one minute believe that Spurs (After everything Conte has said in the past) have simply stopped pursuing him for no reason.

7) Conte wants Eriksen back as he mentioned a few months ago, but a lot of posters believe Conte doesn’t rate him

I posted a week ago I wasn't as convinced as everyone else he'd be coming in. We were keen when he was telling us he was definitely coming but his actions/his agents actions are not exactly shouting "yeah I'm fully on board". Conte has made it clear he only wants players 100% committed and Eriksen is not showing this right now. We've been talking to the alternatives for a while now, and I'd expect us to now go this route.

Never say never but AC will need some convincing now.

I think Eriksen is more opportunistic than anything else. I dont think Conte would be desperate for him (or a player like him) but would like him as he is on a free etc.

Totally correct Trix. Glad you expressed it, as I could not.

I guess this could be resolved with a meeting between Conte and Eriksen when he comes back, if Eriksen says all the recent stuff was just agent games and he always wanted to come back.

That said if we have good backups I could certainly get on board with that. I wonder if Raphinha could be looked at as an option for that. I think Kulusevski has the ability to play AM in a three for example if Conte wanted that tactical option so there could be scope for picking up a top class wideman.

Makes complete sense really, it did feel like one that should have been pretty straightforward and done quickly if it was going to happen. I really hope Paqueta is one of the main alternatives. Would love him here.

So he has dicked us around a bit? That is a shame, I imagine United came in with a HUGE offer and this might potentially be his final big contract, so I don't blame him for having his head turned.

long as we have alternatives and Conte is happy going down that route we should trust Conte/Paratici with this.

we have money and an elite manager, so I think it’s unlike any previous window, I am very calm about it all.

Seems entirely fair on Conte’s part. We aren’t fucking around this summer, if he’s so keen to come here, just bloody sign. I’m sure we aren’t offering him pennies.

Massively respect this attitude - Conte is a feckin don isn't he?

It’s journos playing guesswork pretty obvious or being led lies through agents.
Based on you and Hercules statements, I guess this might be the play of events. Warning: Pure speculation incoming!

1. Agents leak untrue stuff to the press about us not being interested. Source: WLTB
Speculation: They do so to get other clubs to be convinced that they have a chance, and therefore firm up their offers. Furthermore it allows Eriksen to save face towards our fanbase when he takes another offer.

2. Someone (I guess at Spurs) are pissed about the deal. Source: Hercules.
Speculation: They are pissed at the leaks and conduct of the agents as it damages Spurs PR with their fans (Fans going: why aren't you doing something to sign CE after all he has been through?)

3. A deal is therefore not likely as of now: Source: Hercules.
Speculation: Spurs have begun pursuing other options, and will not be pushing for more talks with his representatives because we are pissed.

4. Spurs still have a chance of signing CE, and it is still looking likely. Source: WLTB and Hotspur88
Speculation: Spurs belive that the leak and stuff to pressure us is a bluff and that CE wants to join Spurs. We are waiting for his agents to come back to us, probably after they have firmed up offers elsewhere.

EDIT: Dang, didn't see Trix recent statement before hitting send. Looks more likely now!

And AC is totally right to say so . it’s all in place now , the stadium full , backing in place , other quality signings coming in and Champions League. If Eriksen isn’t jumping at the chance perhaps he is the wrong fit

Thanks for the info.

I think this makes sense from both sides really. Can understand Conte wanting players who really want to play for us (although Bastoni is an odd case as he evidently doesn't).

Equally, given everything that's happened to him, totally understand Eriksen wanting to get a big contract and set him and his family up for life, knowing his career and even life itself may not be as long as he'd been hoping/expecting.

I've not seen that much of him apart from a compilation that only showed goals, but Is Paqueta as good of a playmaker as Eriksen? In terms of playmaking ability, you're looking at players like James Maddison or even one of Olise / Eze from Palace could be Premier League options, all probably very expensive though.

I have to say I'm more excited about us signing a potentially younger talent to come in for that spot anyway. Eriksen is 30 now. And yes, the likelyhood is Eriksen's end product this season will be better than an alternative, unless they really hit the ground running, but I just feel you should never go back. Eriksen has always seemed someone who doesn't particularly get attached to the clubs he plays at, there is obviously not much of a desire on his part for him to return. Let's be honest when he left it wasn't in the best circumstances. He had a sulk on for at least 6 months.

Let's sign the next Eriksen for Spurs.
