The somewhat scary thing is looking at the remaining fixtures, and our results in them last year.

West Ham (H) – (L)
Swansea (H) – (W)
QPR (A) – (L)
Man U (A) – (W)
Leicester (H) – (W)
Burnley (A) – (W)
Aston Villa (H) – (W)
Newcastle (A) – (W)
Southampton (A) – (W)
Man City (H) – (L)
Stoke City (A) – (L)
Hull City (H) – (W)
Everton (A) – (D)

A few of those of course are improvable, but six wins on the trot in there will be very difficult to achieve.
Going off of that, we'd end up with 68 points, picking up 25/39. 8-1-4 (WDL). Not bad and is probably where we'll end up, but I think we need to get 10 wins plus a draw or 2 in order to get top 4. 9 wins with 2 or 3 draws will probably see us lose out due to GD again. With 43 points right now, we probably need to pick up at least 31 points out of 39 to get top 4. Highly unlikely, I'm afraid. I'll honestly be shocked if we end up with more than 68 or 69.

Not sure we'll need 73/74 points. I think 70 or 71 will be enough to get 4th.

9 wins and we're there, or 8 wins and a few draws. Not going to be easy but it is doable.

By now, someone clever can work out about how many points will be needed for 4th place - anyone got any ideas on the likely figure?

Scary to think where we'd be at had Kane not emerged. Mid table I'd guess.

Scary to think where we would of finished if Adebayor hadn't had his purple patch last season.

He;s our lone forward, playing incredibly well, but so are we as a team recently.

Don't think we can afford many more defeats, two, three absolute maximum.

It will take 70 points to get fourth. I think we'll have to beat Southampton away to, but I fancy us to do so.

(Un)Scary to think where Arsenal would be without Sanchez.

Liverpool finished 2nd with Suarez getting the most goals and assists in the league.

What I'm basically saying is that it really isn't a big deal. Every single good team has one star player who will score a large proportion of the goals.

Exactly. Where would Chelsea be without Costa's goals this season...and City have struggled when Aguero is missing or is rusty etc.

We're playing well as a team to and Kane is the focal point of that good play - and obviously playing incredibly well himself.

Against Arsenal didn't we lose twice to them in the league? Surely that's +4?

I've got it separated per fixture. So in other words, our match at the Emirates last season compared to this was a loss to a draw, or +1. If you continue down the list you'll see the +3 for last weekend's home win. But yes, +4 in all.

Didn't expect top four at the start of the season, thought it was pie in the sky when we lost to Stoke so I'd be stunned if we did it now. Get the impression it's too soon tbh, this is a young side, and it probably doesn't need the expectation that we've seen Liverpool flounder under.

Not that I'm overly optimistic, but if we got CL next season it's not as if those fixtures would hamper as much as Liverpool, we are where we are now having played the same amount of fixtures they played all season.

The extra fixtures, injury long term to Sturridge, and lose of Suarez has cost them this season, and hopefully they will now suffer playing in the Europa

Personally I feel if we did get CL football next season will only be beneficial to the players no matter how old they are.

It will improve them technically, tactically and mentally.

You can also almost take it as a given that Sturridge will get injured again...

Equating the following:

QPR – Norwich City
Burnley - Fulham
Leicester – Cardiff

Here is where we stand against last season's comparative fixtures. This year's result is first, with last year's in the parenthesis.

Why have you swapped those teams over? Surly it should be:

1st - Leicester = 18th - Norwich
2nd - Burnley = 19th - Fulham
P/O - QPR = 20th - Cardiff

If you work it out like that then we are actually 5 points better off compared to the corresponding fixtures last season.

If anyone wants to do some predicting, I've thrown this thingy together (Excel).

The default results are my predictions (which I'm rubbish at), but they'd see the league end up as:

Incidentally, in or remaining comparative fixtures we got 10 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses.

Think we'll be hard pushed to repeat that this season.
