Carlo Cudicini has made a miracle recovery from a motorbike crash that threatened to end his football career.
This picture shows the Tottenham goalkeeper, 36, taking his first steps without crutches, just weeks 12 weeks after a horrific motorbike accident left him with two broken wrists and a damaged pelvis.
Friends of Cudicini are said to be amazed at his remarkably recovery and doctors have been staggered by his progress.
The former Chelsea keeper was spotted for the first time without casts on his wrists or the crutches that helped him learn to walk again. He was seen walking near his home in west London, looking fit and healthy.
The picture is likely to bring hope to Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp and fans of the club who doubted that they would ever see the Italian play for the team again.
In November, Cudicini crashed his BMW bike into a Ford Fiesta in Walthamstow, east London, on his way to training. The driver of the car escaped without serious injury.
Shocking pictures showed his motorbike lying upside down in a tangled mess and London Ambulance Service described his injuries as 'possibly life-changing'.
Cudicini was rushed to hospital where surgeons carried out careful work on his wrist and pelvis. He was then transferred to a private clinic where his recovery was overseen by some of the top specialists in the country, before being released home to
recuperate.
His family flew to the UK from Italy to offer their support, including his elderly mother and his brother. Cudicini's contract with Spurs is set to expire in the summer but the
veteran looks determined to bounce back and prove that he can play again.
