If it's a loan with an option this might not be a bad signing. It's obvious our first choice ain't coming so having someone of a similar mould, on loan, while we wait is smart business.

I won't sugar coat it, I don't rate James, but he has useful attributes. Elite pace, and very hardworking. Could be useful at the end of games against tired, stretched teams.

The one thing that is slightly frustrating is a believe we could have signed any of the players we already have even without being in the CL. So it feels like we haven’t really made the most of it by signing someone really top drawer that we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to

As little as I rate Dan James, and I usually try to really understand the thinking behind each signing - I still do not understand the meltdown on here/Twitter...

1. Loan with an option - similar to what they were trying with Lenglet - if he comes in and impresses then great, if not we can reassess next Summer.

2. It's clear Conte wants a player like Zaniolo. Conte also said many times he wants PL proven players - so hence James over Gil

3. This is for 5th/6th forward position. Very likely the player would be used sparingly unless he earns more minutes.

4. Dan James is in the 90th percentile for pressures against wingers and other forwards, he works his socks off

So taking that all into consideration, you can see the strategy and thinking there. The big downside is that he's only considered HG for PL, and not UCL. I want anyone else like most of us in here, but I wish we would all at least take a step back and use a bit of logic!

In the same camp as you. This deal if it does happen will also allow Gil to go out and get regular minutes this season rather than warming our bench.

Would much rather a loan for James as apposed to a permanent deal for another player we are stuck with for X years. Whilst I would prefer others such as Zaha but I don't think they are really options, and people are just creating a stick to beat the club with.
