#thfc Pochettino: "If you remember, five years ago, people said ‘who is Pochettino?’. I’m sure they used Google or Yahoo to find out."

Ben Pearce‏@BenPearceSpurs
Pochettino: "But the problem with that was that all they saw straight away was the penalty against Michael Owen. That situation killed me."

:ROFLMAO:

fucking love poch!.. as many as said, hes our most important signing for SUCH a long time! when so many of us fell out of love with spurs during the sherwwod/avb era.... he completely revitalized the club, and gave us OUR tottenham back! hes god in my eyes!

So we should pay the same wages as Chelsea,Man city, Man U. Even though we bring in only a fraction of their revenue? Yeah, makes sense...
A lot of our fans feel we should be paying what City/Man U/Chelsea pay their players as though that'll make everything hunky dorey.
The problem is these clubs only pay the wages they do because that's what they have to do to get the players they want, if we try to match them they just pay more...whatever is needed to turn players heads, for us with our owners it's just not sustainable.

It's funny when people mention the TV deal or the new Nike deal as though that makes anything more than a very slight difference.
When we're competing against clubs who are effectively bankrolled by oil rich countries or Russian crooks who are happy to pour their ill-gotten gains away, it means the square root of fuck all.

Don't agree I would say a tiny minority want the club to pay the wages the likes of Chelsea and city do but most fans I think don't want some kind of false ceiling on wages which makes it extremely difficult to keep our best or buy established and known talent.

This false ceiling thing is a myth, pretty much every season we hear of new deals for Hugo/Kane/Dele which they seem to happily sign...and none of them have left have they?
And I have no doubt when the window shuts there'll probably be new deals announced for said players....we've been doing this for a few years now and our wage bill keeps increasing.

Since when is it a myth? It's well known to be the case. Either way the main point is hardly any spurs fans expect us to pay like city and Chelsea in the wages stakes which is the point I disagreed with.

It's a myth because of the reason I stated, a ceiling is something that doesn't move...our best players get a wage boost most seasons, how is that a false ceiling?
Regardless, there's loads of fans who think we don't pay enough...my point is if we're paying a player 65kpw, paying him £100kpw ain't gonna make make fuck all difference if someone's willing to pay them £200kpw.
The only way we'll stop that is to pay them what the mentioned clubs can offer, which is unfortunately virtually limitless and for us completely unsustainable.

I think people might also be in for a shock when the club moves into the new stadium, because eventually after a few seasons the finances might loosen up a bit bet never in the league of city, It's or Chelsea.
Yes we probably up our transfer fees and wages to compete a bit better but while levy and co are in charge the finances will always be kept under control imo.

It's only really the Manchester clubs that can do that, if we bumped the average up to around £90-100k our players would be being paid very competitively to many at the top clubs across Europe (superstars aside), and I genuinely believe it would ease (but not completely remove) some of the frustration. It certainly would not make 'fuck all difference' and should be achievable by the time the stadium is up and running.

I think some will be in for a shock, but anyone with any sense can see that unless we have owners are willing to operate at a loss then that's always going to be the case...there's no doubt about it, City and Chelsea have won the lottery with their owners, and Utd can compete because of their revenues built on 20 odd years of sustained success, there's no reason that we can't start closing the financial gap with the likes of Liverpool and that lot down the road though, they have owners with a very similar MO as we do.
And as we've seen the last couple of years, the right players and the right manager can see us punch well above our weight.

I agree with what you say, and my 'fuck all difference' comment was in regards to the Mancs and Chelsea mate (y)

In a bizarre way, I'm really happy the Danny Rose stuff has been blown out of proportion.
I think it galvanises the team and the coaching staff.
I think it means Danny Rose now wants to get back faster and fitter than ever before...to prove some kind of point.
I think it's put Daniel Levy right in the public spotlight...and he will now feel a bit more pressure to get some players brought in. He'll probably relax (a little) his stupidly high bargaining stances here and there.

And I think it gives a further platform for Spurs to prove that actually...a well-gelled team, full of youngsters, playing for each other...can still top a constant revolving door of expensive, high-ego 'talent' that can take time to understand systems and cultures...and still end up playing for themselves.

I think we will be fine.

Agree city, utd and Chelsea will probably remain financially just out of our reach unless ENIC sell to russians or Chinese etc, as for Liverpool and arsenal we can get closer to them both especially Liverpool with our "London prices".
I could see us in 5/6 years from now maybe spending 40 or 45m on a player from time to time but the other 3 are going to be in the 100m + bracket.
You seriously have to wonder when this will come to a head sooner or later the media companies surely can't keeping pumping that much into the game forever.

Of course I don't mean those three but we should compete with wages West Ham and Everton are prepared to pay... we use something like 48% of turnover on wages but Arsenal use 55% Liverpool 69% and Chelsea 67%.... From next season to we will also increase revenue by about £50 million a year because of increased capacity in the new stadium. We could comfortably go to 60% of revenue in my view.

Maybe we will levy did say the stadium was a game changer so perhaps with increased revenue will come increased wages.
