Billy Bremner: Honest Dave, I said "Whyte and Mackay, the Scotch I drank, not White and Mackay are Scotch wank"

Dave apparently hates this picture but still makes me laugh.

Get well soon, Mr. MacKay. I met him once as a small kid, I was only about 6 yrs old or so, as he knew my grandad. Never knew who he was until a few yrs later. He was really nice. Sort of wish I had kept the football he signed for me when I found out.

Lovely guy.

Injustice to call him a hard man, even though he was a tough ( yet fair ) player he oozed class on the pitch.

Hope he gets well soon.
This is a very important point about Dave Mackay he was a very good player and held his place amongst some other top class players.
More strings to his bow than some other would be tough guys.
Happy memories of The Lane in the 60's.
My missis is from the Derby/Nottingham area and he was worshipped up there too.

I met him outside the ground at the 125th anniversary game (villa 4-4) despite him getting on a bit and it raining, he stood there with his missus and made sure everyone who wanted an autograph got one (including my replica 1962 double shirt :D)

also told those there of an interesting statistic..apparantly he's the only person to play in goal for scotland and never concede...(1 game, late on it became obvious after!!)

All the best in getting better to a true THFC legend!!!!

I have just heard from a very good source (who has asked me not to reveal their identity) that Talksport made a mistake and that the great man is fine.

I am sure that you are all as delighted as me with the news.

The same happened at Xmas 2009 when he was rushed to hospital with a suspected heart attack and released when he was given a the all clear after tests

Way before my time so I know of his status only through
stories and praise from people on here.

3 weeks ago I was standing at Crewe train station
and some old man walks up to me and says
'You think he's going to leave?'
Knowing what he meant some how I said 'Harry? I hope not'
He spotted the crest on my coat and had come over, probably because we
were the only Spurs fans in Cheshire.

He told me about the greats of yesterday and spoke
fondly of MacKay.
It was an interesting conversation until he had to dash to catch a train
to Glasgow.
I've not seen another Spurs fan up here since.

Legend has it that this old man would appear every full moon to share stories about Spurs............
