Never saw him play....but ALL spurs should know what he was and is to our club.

He used to own a tie shop near seven sisters back in the 80's, we used to go in as kids to catch a glimpse of him but never saw him.

RIP Great Great player.....my dads favourite Spurs player of all time

Legend, such a shame we could not have given him one final fantastic memory of the club on Sunday. Sadly missed but always remembered. Rest in peace.

Long before my time so I never actually watched him play

But growing up both my Dad and Granddad would tell me stories of the great Dave Mackay - Tottenham legend, will always be part of the fabric of the club

R.I.P. - immortalised by his history at the club

Mackay and Blanchflower what a midfield pair we had! R.I.P Dave, before my time but forever bonded with our great club and it's fans. The embodiment of the complete midfielder. Goodbye Captain Mackay, one of, if not the best ever player to pull on the shirt of the Lilywhites. God bless you Dave :(

Was too young to see him in the flesh but grew up to stories of this superman in Lilywhite. My Dads all time favourite player and don't think he's a bad judge. A man who can be loved by supporters from 3 sides years after his retirement must have done something right. RIP

I love photos like these. They speak a thousand words. Sadly I am too young to have ever seen him play, but the middle one epitomises the old school approach to life and sport. Dave Mackay was, in particular, a true reflection of grit and working class determination with an abundance of ability.

To quote George Best describing him:- (He was) "the hardest man I have ever played against – and certainly the bravest"

A true flower of Scotland who will be missed.

That may have been the shop before the one he used to have it Winchmore Hill.

It had the picture of him holding Billy Bremner's shirt in the window. Always made me so proud that he was one of ours, showing the sort of grit that all great teams need. Let's hope some of our young players read today's papers and are inspired!

RIP

Met him twice as a kid growing up in Ireland when they use to play the home nations. He played a windsor park for the scots and I was there with my da. I got to meet him through Pat Jennings as his family and our family were long time friends. I got his autograph. I never seen him again until about 4 years later and he was a total gentleman towards my brothers & I. He spoke to my da for a long time something you wouldn't see today. He gave me some souvenirs which sadly have got lost over the years. To me he is the greatest Spurs player ever its that simple. He was a true gentleman and hard working.

A legend. RIP Dave Mackay

Met him during the Hearts v Spurs European game. A lovely man who made time for all who were present. Another great player who is a legend of the game.

In my eyes the most important footballer our great club has had and possibly ever will.

In my eyes the closest thing football's had to Duncan Edwards, the complete midfielder.

Competitive to the core, more ability than given credit for, the heartbeat of our greatest team.

Without his drive and determination I feel Bill Nicholson wouldn't have won half the trophies he did but Bill could always spot a player.

Although in Mackay's case, it wasn't difficult.

Rest in Peace Dave MacKay. A true football legend.

Absolutely gutted when I read it this morning, so I chased down some old footage of him and brightened up.

Losing a man like Mackay is always a sad event, but the reason it is so sad is because the memories are Golden.

God Bless Dave.
