I really want this signing. Seems perfect for us. This is an essential transfer so I hope we just get on and do it before others come in.

Is he any good? i really dont know as ive probably watched zero Brentford games.
He’s a decent prem keeper mate, not the biggest, but he can play with his feet too, has a pretty high shot/save ratio (possibly highest this season).

I’m as pessimistic as the next spurs fan but I doubt we’d get as close as agreeing (or nearly agreeing) personal terms if we didn’t get some indication from Brentford than a fee could be agreed

I do like Pythagoras in boots, and I find his vids interesting, but even he said the stats for keepers can be very misleading, because the metrics just aren't there for keepers.

Since he only watches 5 games at most per player reviewed, his views can be floored.

Look in the comments section, a few Brentford fans saying he's amazing on the ball, his short passing is top notch, and his reflex saves are unbelievable. Basically refuting the videos claims.

It's a fair point from that vid. He's great with long range passing, but the short range not so much.

Raya does not seem to be that good with his feet based on the games I’ve seen. Much better than Lloris, of course, but that’s not saying much. I’m not convinced he’s the best keeper for Ange’s system. Especially at £30MM+. I think we could do better in Europe at that price level.

A homegrown keeper that will have us set up for the next 5+ years does sound attractive, admittedly. But I would say that dedicating a non-HG spot to such a crucial position of the squad is a good use of that non HG spot.

What games have you seen? The Brentford fans seem to think he's more than decent. He's still a keeper, I'm not expecting Zidane level skills

I’d say 6-8 games this past season. Less than the Brentford fans, to be fair. And they tended to be higher profile matches against better teams, so maybe the sample size is skewed to teams that would press him. I mean he’s not bad, but he’s not like Steele for example who baits the press and passes well out of it.

Joe Hart has been able to cope with Ange's system so I'm sure Raya will be more than good enough with his feet.

Bingo, so much BS thrown around on here about systems and players. Like Ange requires Ederson levels from a GK in ball playing ability.

He qualifies as HG.

Raya would be brilliant but the fee is going to require some creative marketing with bonuses etc to get done. I don’t see us spending what much upfront.

He isn’t asked to do that in the Brentford system though really. His main task is booting it long to Toney. That was one of the top 10 most regular passing combinations in the league last season. From what I saw he was mainly asked to twat the ball out to him or to distribute to Henry quite high up on the left.

I thought him quite a good signing 6 or so months ago but now I am having doubts. He’ll never reach Hugo’s peak levels but will be a decent PL keeper. He feels like a modern day Spurs signing, good but not top notch. Just the level below. But saying that, he’s currently better than Lloris and Forster so I’d be happy with the signing.
