I thought they tried to sign Spence in January
Permanently, not just a loan, it’s why it didn’t happen. They wanted an option to buy and we wouldn’t agree. They’re not going to give time to a loanee over Hickey, their own young fullback they’ll be trying to develop

Which is a pointless garbage statement
Yeah seems like Brentford know he's their one big sale this summer so are putting on a united front of chatting bollocks to push his price up.

40m is a joke for a keeper with 1 year left, but I suspect we'll have to shell out around 30-35m unless we want to play chicken and make this into a summer-long saga.

Brentford have paid out another £22 million or so today , will probably have to balance the books so hopeful we will get our man.

£40m is high considering he only has a year left but GKs who can pass out from the back are always going to have high value with the way the game has gone the last ten years plus. Can’t blame them for wanting good money either considering they know we need that profile of player. Would be dumb not to.
If we want him we should just offer £35m and get it done, but historically that doesn’t seem likely.

See this one getting done for around £30m. Wouldn’t be mad about that, at all. Him and Forster is a smart pairing, in my opinion.

Makes sense sadly. They've already got their replacement in so can just string us along all summer to try and get the highest fee they possibly can.

Can't see us taking it to the end and leaving them with two #1's. Then we get him for pennies next winter or free next summer. Would be fun, though.

Not bothered by Forster . If he stays or goes . Couple of good performances but I find with him he can’t get down quick enough to make saves . Certain games stand out Leicester away Southampton away Brentford home . Goals in those games I really feel a top keeper would save .

IMO, this signing sets the tone of the window. I really hope we can wrap it up quick. Let Brentford had their share of ego and pride in the press for a few more days. We then offer £25-30mil plus some add ons behind the scene and secure it.

Close the thread - re-open it on September 1st, let me save you trouble of checking it every day it'll effectively be this:

"Great signing but never worth £40m"
"Reports that someone else has put in a bid"
"JUST PAY WHAT THEY WANT LEVY"
"I didn't want him anyway, I actually think we should sign XYZ"
"Some random account on Twitter said he might still be amongst one of the options being considered"
"Levy has let Ange down. Failed to back another manager. I wouldn't be surprised if he resigns before the season starts"
"Fabrizio Romano said we're still negotiating but no breakthrough"
"I HAAAAAAATE LEEEEEEEVVYYYYYYY!"
"Welcome to Tottenham!"
"Why did we go for the cheap option again - why couldn't we sign someone higher profile"

Etc
