And you don't think Atletico are making up the shortfall in salary? Do you think we would be able to pay him £11m a year?

ok please show me some evidence that atletico is paying him 11 million pounds (or even euros) a year.

Just because Barca was going to have to pay a balloon wage doesn't mean that atletico are paying that wage.

Putting aside the fact that Villa is no doubt already getting a fairly splendid wage out of the deal and is already a very wealthy man, the main factor in him moving was regular football, imo. That a CL team can give him that is just all the more reason.

Tottenham and Fiorentina made better offers, of 3-4M, for David Villa, but Barcelona respected the wish of the player to join Atletico. [cr]

I can believe this. I've seen a fair few comments by people saying "how the hell did we not sign him?". If a player doesn't want to come to us then there ain't much we can do. Time to move on and look for someone who does want to join us.

I'm going for a drink, this has me shaking with rage!

Levy's intransigence is all over this one! The crown of astute businessman is well and truly slipping

Haha whaaaaat?! How the feck is this Levy's fault?!

Also dude expand your life activities if football transfers leave you shaking with rage and needing a drink! There really are more important things to worry about.

So the "great work" that Baldini was doing or the "blinder" Baldini has played was to get Villa to sign for Atletico...

Let's not be too hard on AB and the rest. It's just a coping mechanism. Better that than punching the kids or kicking the cat.

What exactly do we have to offer though? CL? No. Highly competitive wages? No. Chance at a title tilt? Highly unlikely. We're basically asking a top player to take a leap of faith.

dont think that was the point.
What I'm saying is, Baldini may have done a great job selling the project, and heard good noises from the Villa camp, but in the end he went for a familiar league, CL and probably better wages, and who can blame him?

To be fair convincing Villa to join AM is a bloody good effort. We need to get that bloke to come and work for us...

Atletico aren't bigger and better than us. I would assume he just went for the easy option of staying in Spain. He's been a great player and I'm gutted that we've missed out on him, but maybe that says a little bit about his commitment at this stage of his career.

Athletico are the 3rd biggest club in Spain and did the double in 1996. They have a bigger stadium, have won their league 9 times with 8 runners up, theyve won their fa cup 10 times with 9 runners up.

They'll be moving into a 73k stadium in 2015.

In what way are we bigger or better? Is it because we are higher than them in the turnover money table due to getting a better tv deal?
