I rate the credibility of the hitc article writers about as highly as I regard Paul Merson (this picture says everything)

I also suspect that Davinson Sanchez has never heard of Paul Merson ....and why should he have ?

So we have spent a megaton on a defender, but I still feel we are lacking in the final third of the pitch.

Over to you Mr Levy.
Debatable. We've got 3 players who achieved 20+ goals last season and the player who achieved the most assists. We lost a massive amount of athleticism from our defence with Walker going and Sanchez looks like he's gonna compensate for that whilst also having the potential to be a better player in general. We all like shiny new attacking players but this is a seriously good signing and one that we needed imo.

Merson's clueless. He is supposedly paid to be a football pundit, but openly admits he hasn't heard of Sanchez. Did he not even watch the EL final?!

This is his latest prediction for Spurs v Chelsea...apparently we were awful at Newcastle? A game we totally controlled?

Tottenham v Chelsea - Nissan Super Sunday, 4pm, Sky Sports Premier League
Chelsea won't lose here. I think both teams will be more than happy with a draw. You have to remember that the last thing Tottenham want to do is lose this game - their first at Wembley this season - and Chelsea can't afford to lose a second game on the bounce.

Both teams will be nervous and I think it will be quite cagey.

If not a draw I would probably go Chelsea. I was not impressed with Tottenham at Newcastle, I thought they were poor.

PAUL PREDICTS: 1-1 (5/1 with Sky Bet)

What a moron. If there is anything that this Spurs team has in its locker more than any other EPL side it is the desire to win. I can't remember a single match where Poch sent out a side with the goal "not to lose" last year. We started Sonny at LWB just to get him on the pitch in the FA Cup semifinal; at City, we were taking it to them while down a man from the 80th minute on; and went flat out all offense against Man U in the White Hart Lane finale (when we surely would not want to lose). If anyone has the Ricky Bobby mentality (if you aren't first, you're last), it's Poch. Merson can shove it. We're coming after Chelsea on Sunday with everything we have and we're going to punch them in the mouth.

For depth.

So we can actually have a real go in Europe for a change.
We are going to have a tough group to start with - Pot 3, and 5 English teams almost assures us of facing 2 elite teams.

Not saying we can't make a go - but having depth won't decide that - we will have to play those matches at full strength.

Depth will matter in the League and FA Cups - but with Lamela coming back, and if we stick with a 3-man back line - then we have Kane, Dele, Eriksen, Son, Lamela, Janssen, GKN - and even Barkley to rotate through

And for cover. We win the league if we have half decent performances when Toby went down. Our offense truly does build from the back and if we don't have a solid back line, we don't fire on all cylinders offensively.

The guy has an opinion, we had the best defence also so why improve that with a 40m cb? If you can't debate about things then just stick to neg ratings.
Why spend the money? Because defense is our strength. Vertonghen will be 31 next year - old for a CB playing a high line. We are at an impasse with Alderweireld, so we may end up having to sell sooner rather than later. By spending now - we improve our depth this season, and protect the continuity of the squad moving forward.
