There seems to be nothing in the press about Chelsea. So where has this Chelsea stuff come from?

If Poch is keen to prioritise a back 3 (and given last year's performances I think he should be) then getting another CB is essential. Any of Dier, Toby or Jan get injured and we're playing with Wimmer or CCV --> not good enough.

Not sure 3 at the back suits us anymore now without any fit pacy wing backs

I understand your points and I'd deffo like him, just making the point we have 3 excellent CBs for a back 3 which could become a back 4 if we got an injury. Obviously, another quality CB would help and I agree on Jan and Toby but, if you had to pick a position where we were desperate for another face, CB would be low down on the list.

Obvs, part of this is me insulating myself from pain if he goes elsewhere!!
I agree that there are more obvious areas for improvement. I think this is one of them signings where you realise sometime after why we signed them.

All those saying we don't need a centre back. We will if we sell Wimmer. People complain when we sold Walker without getting a replacement first. Now we're looking to get a replacement for Wimmer before he is sold and people say he isn't needed.

Pretty sure we're all excited about getting the guy. It's just the 'blowing most of the budget' when we've not strengthened elsewhere that worries us.

We've been pretty much bang on net spend for years now so 40-50m doesn't leave us with much for, in my opinion, more pressing areas of the squad.

Still think it's a lot of money, and if Chelsea do come in and throw big cash at it, we should move on quickly and not get into a war with them. Hopefully we're a strong enough draw on the football side, to warrant Sanchez (or others) to insist on us.

I'm sure most people don't know what our finances are and what we have available to spend. Besides we'll only pay so much up front and the rest over the next few years. I really don't undersatnd why people worry too much about what we spend on players. If we didn't have the money for him and others we wouldn't even be this close to signing him.

Because of precedent.

If we sign this guy for 40-50m I think we'll make a compromise elsewhere in the squad.

I'd rather that CB was that compromise, but I really don't want to debate that. It's just my opinion.

Maybe we have loads more money than I think, and I'm wrong. If so, I'd obviously be delighted.

Well it seems we were ready to splash out on Balde and we're still chasing Barkley so I guess we still have plenty to spend. I don't not think the numbers quoted for Davinson are right anyway. Maybe more like 35m euros.

Agree. Maybe 40+ total possible package. If he has decided he wants to go, has turned down other major clubs as reported then I think this is 100%. Ajax will try and stir up a bidding war in the hopes someone tempts him but they know they can't match wages.

Yes which is why I feel it is essential we bring in a Walker replacement, good as KWP was today. Having a genuine option of reverting to a back 3 will be key to breaking down teams that clog the midfield. Too many times it happened last year and cost us points - WHam away, WBrom away, Bournemouth away, Sunderland away, all back 4's - and today threatened to be a repeat before Shelvey did us a favour.
