So we've got Hull last home game of the season, he will get a fantastic reception.

I think he deserves a deafeningly loud minute of 'there's only one.....' after 20 mins to honour his shirt number,

Imagine we confirm top 4 football that day, I could see him joining in the celebrations!!!

Just pointing out that you can win that award for hard work, commitment, dedication, enthusiasm and, at the same time, not be the most talented player in the team.

Bit cynical considering his often outstanding efforts and the general tone on here about this news.

Let's hope the players who are staying to play in the team read the article on the official site and appreciate where they are and how lucky they are to play at the club. Mr Vertonghen in particular.

Woud've been ten years this January. This great servant and man deserves a testimonial. Surely Levy will do the right thing?

I've questioned his ability plenty in the past but you'll never hear me question any of the other things I said.
If we had a while squad as committed add he's been, we'd be perennial title contenders.

Yes, you can.

For your mate's Sunday league team.

Sunday. Fucking. League. Team.

As opposed to an award voted for by tens of thousands of fans. Rather than his mates from down the fecking pub.

FFS Matt, the two instances really aren't comparable.

Deep down, apart from Ledley, Daws was the only one over those years he was here, that I knew would come out and bleed, sacrifice himself for the team.

He was a leader of men who I trusted 150% would give his all in every match he played in, I'm sure he'd be the first to admit he was never the classiest player around but commitment, never say die attitude and his all round love for the club and its fans easily made up for that...

I love the fella and will miss having him around, best of luck Daws, can't wait to see you return in those shockingly bad stripes of Hull, so all the fans can show you the love and respect you deserve...wish you all the best (y)

When Micheal Dawson arrived at Spurs as a bit part of the Andy Reid transfer.

We had just signed the Irish Maradona, so little attention was given to the lanky Yorkshire man.

9 and a half years later, that Yorkshire man has seen the club go from a club in the doldrums of mid table mediocrity to a club constantly punching above his above his weight and challenging the higher echelons of the league.

Him, with the likes of Tom Huddlestone, Aaron Lennon, Jemaine Jenas saw the club's rise and only Dawson and Lennon had been able to keep up thus far.

Out of the four, Dawson would be regarded as the one with the least ability but what he lacked with ability he made up with heart and courage.

He played with an honesty and passion very few players have done in my time of supporting the club, second only to Gary Mabbut and deservedly took over the captaincy from Robbie Keane.

His displays with Ledley next to him, were commendable it was only when King was absent you could see his flaws.

The sad thing about Dawson was that although he seemed to have kept in the first team mix for so long, you never saw him making a constant improvement and that’s what cost him more international recognition.

His ability and eagerness to hit a long pass was always there but his short game never seemed to progress. He would always play it safe and leave it to someone else to play a short forward pass.

His positional play in the absence of King could be questioned, there were times when he played with inferior players and instead of taking charge, he seemed to be lost in the melee.

He did improve in this aspect but not enough to be trusted in where we are trying to get to.

I would just thank him for the commitment and the class he dealt with everything he did for our great club.

Just pointing out that you can win that award for hard work, commitment, dedication, enthusiasm and, at the same time, not be the most talented player in the team.

But he won the award from us. We were the voters and we don't generally reward hard work, etc., in the absence of performance.

He's never been 'the most talented player in the team' on a single day of the nine and a half years he has been at Spurs, but he won that award because the fans thought he was the 'most valuable player' (to borrow a useful baseball concept) in our squad in the year we qualified for the Champions League.

And he was. He was excellent throughout that season, in partnership with King and with others. Then, the following season, he played at the highest level, against top European teams when we beat them, home and away. What else does he have to do to be taken seriously?

Much like David Beckham's, his career has been a victory of application, intensity and determination over a relatively modest level of natural ability. Dawson won that award for the quality of his performances, not the magnitude of his talent. It sure as fuck wasn't a sympathy vote.
