So many going OTT as usual about how good or bad a player is, we often seem to love/ hate players based on their last performance, Dawson has always had a massive heart, always been so likeable, always gives 110% , and sometimes has really good games, but often, if we are honest he does come short, especially against the top players...lets see against Aguero next week, if we still think he is awesome...don't get me wrong,i am glad we kept him as i think he has done well, but if..if we are serious about moving to the next level, that imo means no Dawson as a first team regular, i see him as a squad player who can play against certain forwards and certain types of games, but he certainly isn't awesome imo...though i wish he was.

Best post in this thread - sums him up exactly. He's not Beckenbauer but then again he's not Willy Young either! Good squad player who against the more physical strikers will do a job.

I think you have misunderstood me??

Haha possibly. Are we talking about the merits of Dawsons challenge on Frei in the last few minutes of ET or the earlier challenge in the first half of normal time? I was referring to the block on A Frei's effort and thought you were putting that down to Frei error more than Dawson briliance.

No i totally agree with everything you said, i think in my post regards the first block, also a good block, the latter of that post was sarcasm(albeit a poor attempt) (y)

Probably not the time for bigging anyone up. But Ive said it before and I'll say it again, I fucking love Daws.

Would have loved to see him lift the trophy and for that alone I am glad we gave it a proper go and took the Europa League seriously. You just know he is as gutted as us.
As the camera panned around the field after the final penalty, he was almost in tears.

I love the man. I would love a team of Michael Dawsons.

I believe he is our longest serving player now Ledley has retired.

Not bad for someone who is "slow, no brains, no ability to read a game, no anticipation, constantly loses his man, no composure can't pass, tackle and only any good against a certain type of player etc etc"

If every one of our players could play with only a fraction of the heart and commitment that Dawson shows every match then we would win every trophy going.

Yes he has his faults as a player, but the way he plays should be held up as an example of how the game should be played.IMHO Dawson is a fantastic captain and is the type of player every club needs

Whoever that wanker was that said Newcastle had scored: A big middle finger to you.

Love Daws. Hope he gets that contract extension.

Thought he had one of his best games for us yesterday . Towering headers from corners and pin point long passes (y)

It came out of the East Stand directors boxes.

I think it was done with the best intentions, to gee there players up a bit and hope Newcastle do us a favour. It worked as we were far more aggressive afterward.

A great, old school style defender. Rare to find and loves the club.

Absolutely no reason to sell

Breaks my heart to see Daws like that, worse than not getting CL is seeing how much he wanted it. Captain fantastic.

And weren't the crowd amazing after that? Shame we can't be that passionate every game!
