I know he scored a stunner today - but with more dedication to the game etc he could be a real force in the Premiership. He could be another Alan Shearer if he applied himself more.

Do you think he'll improve? I really like him as a player.

The first thing on his mind right now is getting some form of consistent fitness back. It looked like he collected another groin strain today.

I agree though, in fact I hoped we would have been in for him before he went to the Hammers. The guy is quick on the floor for his size and terrific as a target man.

Latest rumour is that United want him, so this goal would've sent up his value by a few million

I think he would've been a very good player already but for his injuries.

If Berbatov leaves we should buy Ashton or Crouch or both cost for the two 16/18mil , keep Keane and Bent what is left money wise funds and transfer fees, add to Modric in m/f

Occasionally gets a shot on target, an improvement on Can't Control. Not that that would be difficult.

Sorry, is this serious?

If Berbatov leaves (hate to bring this up again) then i think we'd be stupid to try and replace him. Berbatov is a very unique striker and we'll have to change our style of play as at the moment our strikers are creating the chances rather than the midfield.

We'll need to bring in two more quality midfielders and a target man to compliment Keane and Bent. Ashton is an excellent player with a very good goalscoring record for each club he's played for. I'd very happily have Ashton at the Lane.

Well, Crewe, anyway.

a good player, but he has been too injury prone, even probably pushing King over the last few seasons  if he wasnt so injury prone and atchaly applied himself more into games i think he could have been a great player but i dont think he is what we need just now

Ashton for sure would have been a much better player bare his injuries, but so would Ledley...and Carlton Cole for that sake. Just as Bent would have scored more goals had he played more.
But wouldn't want to gamble on an injury prone player....though it did pay for for Blackburn: the main reason why Roque Santa Cruz didn't fare that well at Bayern were due to all his injuries.
If Santa Cruz would be "free" of his previous injuries he'd be in my list of "first choices" to replace Berbatov (should he leave).
Others would include:
Mario Gomes (not for the €50m Stuttgart are asking), Diogo Luis Santo (Portuguesa), Edin Dzeko, Gabriel Obertan, Jimmy Briand, Huntelaar, Mirko Vucinic.

He's bottom half of table or Championship standard at best. Very over hyped player, based on a decent run of games for Norwich. Before his injury at West ham, he lived on the back of the nice goal he scored in the FA Cup 1/2 final. Other than that he didn't score that many and never really looked likely to. Also, the Shearer thing is something a journalist said a few years ago and has stuck. He's nothing like Shearer, he's closer to John Hartson!

massively overrated. makes me laugh that some people rating Ashton are the same who have been hammering Bent.

I know who I'd rather have.
