I'd like to try Chiriches there.

Technically gifted, good tackler.
Chiriches gives me heart failure every time I watch him and I'm considering suing him and his agent for causing me so much grief in front of the telly on Thursday nights. If he's not gone I shall cancel my subscription to BT sport.

According to Marca, Mario Suarez looks to be headed to Fiorentina. He was the one quality remaining player I thought we had a real chance of signing before the start of the season, as he had a release clause of 8.5 million pounds and was already adept at the high pressing, fast transition football Simeone and Pochettino like to play.

So far, we've seemingly seen a lot of players I personally think would've improved us move on to other clubs. Others will invariably disagree, but I would've been content with just one of Schneiderlin, Clasie, Cabaye, Suarez, or Imbula to bolster our midfield ranks. Not all are pure defensive midfielders, but I think we need another player who can move the ball forward quickly, score a few goals, and split open packed defenses with clever, creative passing or dribbling.

The three other players often mooted (Rabiot, Kramer, and McCarthy) would all be 20+ million pound transfers from clubs that don't necessarily need to sell. If Everton sell Stones to Chelsea, there's no way McCarthy will be sold too, especially in August. Their supporters would be left furious, and Martinez couldn't re-invest that money into enough quality to replace what they've lost that late in the window. I don't think Leverkusen will sell Kramer with them having to play CL qualifiers in late August. That's assuming we'd be willing to pay over the odds for him in the first place. Rabiot is again, a great talent, but I don't see PSG's incentive to sell for anything less than top dollar.

Looking at smaller tier clubs in England, you've got some other players like Sissoko and Ki that would probably divide opinion. But with the new television deal in place, can we hold leverage late in the window over smaller clubs than us in the EPL moving forward? They have enough financial breathing room to reject decent, but not outrageous bids for their key players, so in that sense, I think buying from England late in the window is going to be tougher than ever before.

Why aren't we linked with Leon Goretzka? As far as play style goes, he has several glaring parallels to Rabiot, except he doesn't play for a Champions League club loaded with money.

It's highly unlikely but I like the idea of Vlad as a DM, he doesn't panic, he isn't afraid of the ball, (minus the new defender's) he's the best tackler in the squad and he can move the ball forward.

Those behind him will need to have good positioning and awareness though.

Vlad has poor concentration and he plays some suspect balls sometimes, what makes you think he'd be competent in a position where you need to be able to track runners, take up good positions and start attacks?

He can track runners and he demonstrated good concentration in his first season when he played a lot. He also played well that season but many people conveniently forget this.

He isn't perfect, the only major issue I have with him is that he still plays like a raw player, given his experience, this shouldn't be the case.

I can go on and on but he isn't as bad as people make him out to be and he's the type of player that can easily adapt to a different position.

Think that's the underlying point, we need perfect for that position which is unrealistic but if not perfect we need as close to perfect as can be and Vlad isn't that guy.

I understand the levy factor, but find it strange that people seem to dismiss players that will cost £20m+, the DM/CM we need will be seen as first team regular in a top 6 prem team, so surely in todays market (especially when other teams need to also strengthen in that position, £20m+ is the going rate. Not sure id want to sell any of our first team regulars for any less. So if we want to challenge top 4 that's just what we've got to pay, not many other ways round it.

We have sold / will have sold so many players I am sure we can afford to spend 20 plus on a player or two the players we have sold were all bigger wage earners so our wage bill must look a lot sexier

Getting more and more worried about defensive midfield to be honest. There's a few midfielders out there I suppose but none that we have been linked to yet.

Suarez- seemingly going elsewhere
McCarthy- Up in the air I think, we certainly cannot put all our eggs into this basket
Rabiot- Don't think PSG will sell
Kramer- Too optimistic

I hope we start seeing some more links soon as i'm concerned about this. Our youngsters in CM are really talented, I like the look of Winks in particular, but we really really need a bit more steel.

I really hope we know what we are doing because this position is critical in my opinion.
