Wouldnt read to much into it tonight. Think Pav was the better option for the closing minutes as is slightly bigger target man than Defoe and can hold the ball up abit better.

Agree with this.

defoe is a knob

Do'nt agree with this

It made more sense since Pav, like Crouchinho, has much more experience in European competitions. A lot of people often forget that.

That said, based on what happened to Keane after the Dublin episode I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Harry is a bit pissed off with Defoe after the prima donna interview.

That makes sense.

I thought Pav was a better sub than Defoe at the time because Pav is better at holding up the ball than Defoe.

Yep agree with this especially after the last few games that Pav has played. He has been chasing players down and getting stuck in recently and does seem to be able to hold the ball up quite well whereas Defoe is'nt of the same ilk. Defoe is more of a predator type of striker who just looks to get a shot away on goal.

Didn't Defoe play up top on his own during his first half-season at Pompey before they signed Crouch to partner him?

People like to analyse things on here lol as if Pav hadn't gone on people would have been saying there's Harry's problem with Pav again putting his favourite son on instead!

Harry cannot win.

I think this is mostly based on Defoe's Daily Mail rant though mate. So the OP had a basis for it.

The goals in the past game were stunning. A turnaround perhaps?

Yes they were and i hope so

But 2 goals against the bottom team doesn't give him enough right to start mouthing off, especially when Harry has stood by him. Unlike say Pav, who has scored when he's played, but still get dropped regardless.

I hope Defoe does regain his form, like our a strikers, but he has to be content with sitting in his hands for a bit before knocking down the door like he's some British version of Pele

So apparently Defoe stormed down the tunnel when the decision was made to sub Pav on for Crouch. Says a mate of mine who was at the game and also someone in one of the other threads on here.

Oh, I entirely agree.

That is one of the reasons that people here have me down as a complainer, because I hated the fact that Defoe was getting starts at the expense of others and not doing the busienss. I've always said, if he plays well I will advocate he starts.

He played well at the weekend and I think therefore he warrants another start at some point. Question is whether or not he and VDV can become effective together. I'm not yet sure they can.

What the hell is it with footballers always throwing their toys out of the pram?

Did anyone find it very unusual how Pav got the nod ahead of Defoe when it came to coming on for Crouch tonight?

Could it be that Harry and him have fallen out cos of Defoe mouthing off in the press?

Anyone heard anything?

That is what some will think but we proved against Wolves that Defoe cannot maintain hold up play when with out a large!

Pav was the perfect choice he drove them back and his size was an issue for there defence after the battle that they had against Crouchadino!

If they had scored against us in the dying minutes then Harrys gamble may have back fired but last night it did not

Honestly I think all 3 strikers are playing for their Spurs shirts next season. Crouch been good in CL but abysmal in EPL. Defoe has been abysmal in both and Pav has be inconsistant in both and attitude apparently.

Add Keane and Gio to that and we might be looking at a totally new front line next season with only VdV a familiar face

guess he must be gutted at not playing in the big champions league games, he always strikes me as a player who plays for himself first and everything else is an after thought.

what he needs to realise is that if leaves spurs arsenal wont touch him, never will chelsea, untied, man city, liverpool so he can forget champions league if he leaves. suppose Everton are always an outside bet, maybe he'll leave for QPR and link up with taarabt

If this really is true then the lad needs to grow up as 'Arry made all the right calls last night. No one at Tottenham has the right to play all the time unless they maintain an extremely high level of skill and commitment consistently and constantly.

based on recent form, pav is the better option. he's looked hungry, and has been working hard in the games i've seen.
